I find it so odd how many people are scoffing at this micro-pilot program for UBI as if it’s such a publicity stunt or misuse of funds. Of course it’s a publicity stunt. Everything candidates do is a publicity stunt!

I read Yang’s book a while back (The War on Normal People) and found his arguments for UBI really compelling. I think most people who dismiss him haven’t actually looked into his proposals or the inarguable evidence of automation as an imminent threat to our economy and society as it’s currently structured.

To add onto this, it would especially help people who are currently receiving disability benefits. There are a lot of people who rely on those benefits to survive but therefore are prevented from doing things to better their financial situation, like taking a part-time job that they can physically handle; if they

I think this sentiment is pretty common. I paid off my loans (under $20k) within five years of graduating college by budgeting tightly. Now, my husband and I are aggressively paying down his grad school loans — more than $75k. We’re working a plan to pay them off within three years by cutting our expenses severely

Agreed. I graduated in 2010 and was fortunate to have only about $18k in debt, which I paid off in about 5 years.

These debt-cancellation plans sound really nice to voters (especially young ones), but I don’t think they will address the real problem: rising cost of college tuition without a meaningful increase in the value of the degree. Wages have been stagnant for a long time, but college costs keep rising, all while most

What works for us is that we have different work schedules. I work 9-5, he works afternoon into evening, getting home between 9 and 10pm most weekdays, and works Sundays. So we have nice chunks of alone time at home, late dinner together sometimes, and then make a real effort to maximize our Saturdays together.

The restaurant scene in Always Be My Maybe is true perfection. I’ve rewatched it multiple times and I die over and over again.

Okay, in which case if someone accidentally becomes pregnant and doesn’t wish to be, they can use the simple medical methods available to end that pregnancy -- therefore dealing with the consequences of their actions responsibly.  Glad we agree!

So you’re saying that even though we have simple, effective, and cheap methods that prevent pregnancy, you believe people should not use them for... reasons? I assume you’re also against radiation/chemotherapy for anyone who got lung cancer from smoking or skin cancer from being out in the sun, because they should

I thought her last word was pretty bad ass though.

Wow, Jaime was so much blonder in the first season. I feel like they’re trying to make him look old and grizzled with the darker hair, but it’s just distracting — unless he was using Ye Olde Sun-In before, his hair would get lighter as he aged, as gray would be lighter than his blond.

Probably most of the unclaimed amounts are less than $10, but last year my husband got over $500 from the state of NY (through unclaimed.org). They don’t tell you how much it is until you get the check in the mail — we were shocked.

My go-to souvenir is a print of the place I’m visiting by a local artist or photographer. I lay it flat at the bottom of the suitcase so it takes up no room, or tuck it between books. Our living room has a whole wall of prints and photos of places I’ve been (and a few we’ve gotten since my husband and I got together).

Probably split between Booker/Harris/Gillibrand/Klobacher?

This goes for someone’s teeth as well, as it will make them self-conscious about smiling and laughing.  I know this because I spent literal years in middle school and high school awkwardly smiling only with my mouth closed, as I had been teased about my teeth and then, later, my braces. As an adult I still need to

This app is the same thing The Minimalists’ website/podcast has been promoting for years. They call it the 30 Day Minimalism Game:

It’s happened to me twice at different restaurants. I manually put my transactions into a budgeting app, so it’s pretty easy for me to spot when a charge on my card doesn’t match up.

I never understand — who are all these people who love their current private insurance plans?
