Yeah, I can’t believe how many people, even on this site, are gleefully speculating about how she must have murdered him. What’s more likely:

A) She killed him and fed him to her tigers (!!!), OR:

B) His small plane disappeared/crashed while he was flying it unregistered, without a license, on the way to Costa Rica

I agree that Bernie would energize more people to go to the polls in November - but a huge number of those mobilized would be on the Republican side.

I couldn’t even make it through half that clip.  Ughhhhh so gross.

Thanks for providing this extra context for those of us not from Indiana. That does sound like a courageous move!

At least they didn’t tattoo it anywhere!

I think there should be a rotating schedule where a group of states votes every Tuesday for a handful of weeks. So if your state was first this year, you’re last next time, and second-to-last the time after that. In our current system some states will always feel unheard, so we should just make everyone feel equally

While I think Yang phrased his answer quite poorly, this article selectively removed the part of his quote where he says he is an “absolutist” in supporting women’s reproductive rights at all points during the pregnancy.

I think Yang’s quote is a bit of a word salad here, but you purposefully cut off the start of the quote where he says he’s unequivocally against governments restricting women’s reproductive choices. And for context, he said this in response to a question about how he would explain his views on late-term abortion to

I feel like I’m really in the minority for preferring the current host team of Sandi and Noel to Mel and Sue. Maybe because I started with one of the later seasons first and then went back to the beginning?

I assume it’s a house where the authorities finally trapped El Chapo? I refuse to google in case I’m wrong and cancelled the wrong thing.

My county banned plastic shopping bags and it’s pretty good (except that plastic produce bags are somehow not banned). You have to pay $0.05 for a paper bag, but they’re available. Also every organization and its mother is giving away free reusable bags as merch.

Do we choose the one we want to cancel, or the one we don’t want to cancel?  Or does it not matter??

To be fair, even having a simple food/booze/dancing party with the people you like can still be very expensive. When we were first planning our wedding, we wanted to have it in our backyard to keep things cheap and easy. But that would necessitate a tent rental in case of bad weather (several thousand dollars) and

I think this article overlooks a fair bit of information about Yang and his ideas. Mainly, that his UBI proposal does not replace any existing welfare programs. It stacks on top of all public assistance/benefits besides some of the “cash-like” ones (SNAP, TANF, etc.) which typically have monthly benefits much lower

One of Gillis’s comments was specifically about Yang, though (see the linked text in the article about this). So Yang was going to be asked about it regardless, and expected to give a statement or response. I don’t think he is trying to set himself up to represent an entire group at all; he’s responding to the

It doesn’t replace any current programs. It does, however, allow current benefit recipients to opt-in to the $1,000 a month, at which point they would be giving up any cash-type benefit they currently get.

I think one thing that helps ameliorate that scenario is that UBI would give people more options for mobility, so they can leave situations where landlords are hiking rent (and all landlords can’t conspire to raise rent at the same time; that’s illegal). Here’s an interesting article on how UBI could affect the

Yang’s UBI wouldn’t replace all assistance programs, only the ones that currently give cash benefits (and it stacks with social security, as that’s something the person has already paid into). It would be opt-in, so if someone is getting $2,000 a month in cash assistance, they probably wouldn’t choose to give that up

I don’t know if I agree with all of his policies, but I initially heard about him through his book, The War on Normal People — it’s a very well-researched (and terrifying) look at how the rise in automation will upend many industries and huge amounts of jobs. He makes an incredibly compelling case for needing to get

It’s mostly paid for by a value-added tax (VAT), which is a tax structure that exists in most European countries. This applies to businesses at every step of the supply chain and also to consumers when purchasing the end product (though Yang’s proposal would except “necessity” goods like food and clothing, and I think
