I saw in another post that you mentioned you might try the books again, so I wanted to also note that I personally think the writing and characterization gets LOADS better after the first book. The first book definitely used some romance genre tropes that were icky then and are even ickier twenty years later, when

From what I've read about her, the author of the books seems a little... high strung. I wonder if she'll revise her stance on fanfiction now that the series is about to become so much more popular and the fanfic will inevitably explode.

SPOILER-ISH COMMENT TO FOLLOW

I agree that it took me a while to "forgive" the character of Jamie for the belt scene. As for the homophobia...

Unfortunately I don't think there will be much diversity in the series until they adapt the third book (hopefully they will keep going after this season). At that point in the series there are Chinese, Native American, and African characters who are introduced.

I solved this dilemma by buying my mom a Starz subscription for Mother's Day, since she loves the books. We watched the premiere together over the weekend and it was a great bonding moment (except for her complaints that Claire was too tall and skinny... I kept having to remind her that her being a good actress was

Yes! I loved the first episode, and I'm so glad the first book gets 16 episodes instead of a measly 10 or something.

I want to see the responses to her post now. PLEASE.

You forgot "IT'S MY DAY!"

Well, I read somewhere that episode six is very intense, so I'm guessing they want the media to hype that episode up a lot so viewers stick with it until then.

Arghhh, I want to watch this so bad, but I promised my mom I'd watch the premiere with her this weekend (she's a huge fan of the books). From what I've seen, most people who have watched the pilot seem impressed, including book readers.

I'm from the US and I'm always shocked when people tip less than 20%. I think the average percentage varies regionally, but where I am (New York) I think 20% is pretty standard.

I'm pretty sure first degree and second degree murder are equally bad for the dead dude.

I stopped watching it not long after the killing Hitler episode, because I wanted to end it on a high note, and the rest of the season was making me sad.

How are these organic? Were they not sprayed with preservatives before being put in that poor woman's ear? Or are they organic because the jeweler sat on them while sitting down to a lovely light lunch of organic fiddlehead salad with two-and-a-half slow-baked artisanal croutons?

To each her own, I suppose, but I personally couldn't imagine choosing to have a wedding — supposedly one of the happiest days of a person's life — at any place that has a documented history of hosting and perpetrating human suffering.

You sound like an absolute joy to be around.

In my area I've seen both a Don't STOP Believing (meh) and a Drop STOP Open Shop (slightly better).

What, no kale?

I feel like they're trying to equate "fulfill their many functions" with the "women wear so many hats/have so many jobs" idea. But watching crappy TV just makes my day less functional, so...
