Excellent point. That's the best answer to the comment I posted regarding plots where the lack of agency IS integral to the plot.

From the reviews I read (including Feminist Frequency, IIRC), a lot of readers were expecting Mockingjay to feature Katniss the avenging feminist ass-kicker, single-handedly taking down the Capital. While that might have been a bit more entertaining on a visceral level, it wasn't nearly as thematically satisfying as…
I mostly agree with this, BUT what if the plot is about how the strong female character is denied agency? Like Katniss in Mockingjay or Sansa in A Song Of Ice And Fire. I've heard people unfairly criticise the handling of those characters for this reason.
Thank God Gotham By Midnight and Gotham Academy are continuing!
Yeah, I'm not sure how that description is supposed to warn us away.
I nominated Legend Of Korra for both 'short form' and 'long form'. It was indubitably the best spec fic I've seen on TV this year. Some people (especially 'animation is for stupid kids!'-types) will accuse me of being infantile or a rabid fanboy, but that's not true: I was very disappointed in season 2 and even I…
Maybe the time travel in Part 1 affected his personality? The Marty we see in Part 2 & 3 is technically a different character than the first film, having been raised by the 'improved' George & Lorraine. Perhaps being raised as a privileged uppper-middle-class kid lead him to want to prove his toughness?
Yeah, and?
That's a brilliant idea.
Geez. Even if the film itself is a dud, it's given me enough desktop wallpapers for a lifetime.
It's sad that all the annoying characters in your list are women. (Not blaming you; I'm blaming the writers). I have seen Arrow, and I found Roy Harper to be far more annoying than Laurel, but people love him.
This is great news, but in a way it is a shame that DC wasn't successfully able to integrate them into the New 52. Not because the New 52 is all that great, but because the Milestone characters should have had a higher profile and marketing push behind them. Hopefully this new company won't get swamped by the majors.
Very well put.
I know this will likely fall on deaf ears, but The Hunger Games qualifies.
What's wrong with not being rated R? It's a ghost story, not a slasher film.
You know, she doesn't really explain what's so bad about 'X of the week' stories, other than that this show isn't about them.
I can understand his sentiment, but given that the only Harrison book I've read was dreadfully dull and repetitive, and what 'world' there was built for it was basically a thinly veiled excuse to make oh-so-edgy commentary on the real world politics of the day, I don't really put much stock in this quote.
The thing that struck me about this was that it was such a self-consciously 'serious' trailer that I worry that the general public will mistake it for a DC film
Just a reminder that if you like Noto's art, you could be buying the Black Widow comic, and then you'd get to own awesome art like this every month!
Because you're a human with a soul and everything.
