Is it just me, or does Johansson have a bit of that 'old Hollywood' glamour about her?
One thing I just thought of, is that the general public aren't really exposed to much of her private life, as far as I can tell. She's doesn't seem to be a tabloid fixture, which given her increasingly high profile seems strange.

Obligatory "Where's the Black Widow solo movie" post.

"The best way to describe the film as a whole would be if Bill And Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Home Alone, Garfield, icanhascheezburger, product placement, commercial breaks, outdated cultural references, suburban community theater, and acid had a baby. "

It also spent waaaaay too much time with his alien duplicate back on earth and his girlfriend and other bozos. Plus they were expecting a sequel, so the film just kind of ends.
I could actually go for this one being remade.

This sounds fascinating, and I'll probably read it. But two things in this review jumped out at me:

Fair enough. If the research says that this kind of thinking actually helps people, then that's fine. I still have problems with it however.

The problem I have with the modern wave of self-esteem boosting pop culture for teens (and this isn't just an issue with T-Swift) is that it posits that self-esteem and empowerment are prerequisite for happiness, rather than the other way around.

Well, that and children screamed at the very mention of your name, Ricky Coogan.

Didn't the headline at one point read "Your move Lush"?

There's still Landspeed Records, and Flipside for secondhand

This was like three years ago, just after most second hand CD stores here in Canberra closed down.

I had to track this CD down on eBay for $25 to complete my Pearl Jam collection…just before they included out on their released edition of Vs/Vitalogy. Grrr.

When I'm pushed to name my favourite movie, this is always in the running.
This film is the essence of fantasy. It's pure imagination unleashed. A simple, archetypal story in the most elaborate, unreal and fantastical world possible.

Clear Spot is essential. Ain't no way that ain't true. It's the perfect balance of all his styles: abrasive weirdness, blue-eyed soul and blues boogie.

I was going to list Regular Show, but then I thought that, while I love it, its female characters aren't its strongest asset (since they mostly exist as support and counterpoint to Mordecai and Rigby).
Except Eileen.
Eileen is the best.

In Psychology, we call that 'learned helplessness'. I think studios suffer from it.

Steven Universe, Legend Of Korra and Adventure Time, for a few, are doing good work.

"not that I tried hard enough"

The one upside to living in Australia (as a music fan) is that there is still a fairly reliable alternative/pub rock scene hanging on by a thread down here.

Haven't heard Restorations before, but I like that guy's voice.
