For anyone wondering about this, Wiki has a short explanation. It has to do with double jeopardy. But in Canada, on appeal, the original verdict is thrown out and the appeal is considered to be a continuation of the first trial. I’m not a lawyer, but I don’t get the sense that it’s any worse than the U.S. system, in

I guess the unique thing about the US is that there are so many handguns, they obscure the fact that a long gun will do the job almost as easily. When a person wants to kill themselves or someone else, they'll use whatever is at hand.

Nobody forgets faster what capitalism is for than capitalists. To wit: capitalism is where you use your money to make more money without performing labour. Free money, in other words.

I'm Canadian, so:

It's funny: if you're an anti-gun activist, you're afraid of people with guns. If you're a pro-gun activist, you're afraid of... people with guns. Both apps are probably not helpful, but there's an undeniable asymmetry here.

my usage of that word fuels the racial grievances of conservative white idiots

None of this is anywhere near as stupid as reality.

Well, obesity is plenty shameful and obese people are plenty shamed. The problem is that food is often a place of refuge and shaming fat people makes the problem worse, not better. There is not a fat person alive that doesn't know why they're fat. If it all came down to knowledge and reason, nobody would be fat,

And Deepak Chopra is an endocrinologist. But when you want to live in a place like this, actually helping people with real science just won't suffice.

Also, please, 19 year old douchbags abusing daddy's Subaru on my local backroads: this is not you.

One aspect of that item is, don't give your labour away for free. They will not appreciate it and you will not benefit from it. If you tell them that you worked on company business in your own time and it failed you are signalling your willingness to work for nothing. If you don't respect yourself, nobody will.

.

I may very well be in better shape than you, but there's no way I could get enough calories and nutrition for "a few bucks" per meal. At least not where I live. If I was totally sedentary and didn't care about variety and enjoyment... maybe.

That's not a very nutritious diet. You didn't even mention fresh fruit/veggies. If you were raising kids on that, they'd be developmentally disadvantaged.

Cool. Tell us what you eat, how much and how much it costs.

2) You can't lie with statistics if you don't provide any, fantasy action-movie shotgun scenarios notwithstanding. (Anyway, why isn't your shotgun safely locked up? I thought you were "responsible!") I guess a truism (gun accidents only happen when there are guns) is supposed to be a stand-in for insight, but the same

1) I don't assume America has more crime *only* because of guns, it's because America has a fucked up culture and economy *and* more guns. Most gun control advocates are also anti-poverty, anti-sexism and anti-racism advocates because they realize that high crime is an ecosystemic problem. That's why gun-control is

Jesus. If you're trying to illustrate by example what it means to miss the point by a country mile, you've succeeded!

A man walks into a bank carrying a swimming pool and says, "give me all your money!"

Way back when, I worked in a gas station. It sucked. People would come in and just treat me like garbage. All. The. Time. You got a problem? Make it my problem.
