I really liked Betty! I recommend it. I know nothing about skater culture but I really enjoyed the show.

She has a horrible voice - when I clicked on the video I thought “This goes out over the airwaves every day? Ugh.” The white New England accent is not pleasing to my ear.
McGee was about ten years older than the actors who played her peers on the show - Danielle Fishel was born in 1981, Ben Savage was born in 1980, and Rider Strong was born in 1979.
When the masked woman swatted her away and told her to get back since she wasn’t wearing a mask, I howled. Get thee behind me!
Yep, this is what stupid people who are trying to sound smart say.
Yep - you could see her wilt when she saw her white neighbors didn’t have her back.
Right! She even referenced using a pay phone in the tweet!
Chelsea Clinton pointed out on Twitter that when her father was in office and she needed to reach him, she would call the White House operator and they would put her through to him, wherever he was. The notion that the PRESIDENT OF THE GODDAMN UNITED STATES would be unreachable is bonkers. What if there’s a bombing or…
Yep. My gym is opening on Friday. I haven’t been since March. I will not be going. I miss the gym, I wonder if I am getting effective strength training with my dumbbells (bought years ago, thankfully, because they’re hard to find now) and body weight workouts, but I won’t be going. There are myriad virtual workout…
In the Twitter thread her kid posted, her kid says Mom doesn’t work and lives off government assistance.
Wow. Mother of the Year apparently has two more kids she doesn’t have custody of (they’re with their grandparents). Another white woman chimes in on the thread and says, basically, “sorry that’s your mom, I used to live near her and she was trash then.” Yikes.
I hope he stays safe!
Right. Like Ayanna Pressley said, show me your budget. I keep thinking of Salesforce. Some staff (women) told the (male) CEO that they suspected women were being paid less than men for the same work. The CEO was like “Nah, can’t be” and authorized a pay audit. The woman in charge was like “This might cost you…
Wow, that’s great! Gives him some cushion so he can be a little discriminating with his job search. I hope he finds a job soon!
Meanwhile I can name three people I know personally who are very much alive who were supposed to get stimulus checks and as yet, have not, and a bunch of others who spend their days (like, all the livelong day) trying to get through to unemployment so they can get their benefits.
Maya Rudolph also voices Nick’s mother on the show (so that’s another person of color who voices a white character), so it wouldn’t be a stretch for her to do Missy. A lot of the actors on that show do more than one - Nick Kroll does like half the characters. (I’m a fan of the show and have been watching it more in…
Daveed Diggs voices an old white woman on Central Park.
It’s great that he’s doing this with his money. I hope he will also look at, or encourage/require other senior leadership to look at, any pay or opportunity disparities that exist at Netflix. Maybe HBCUs could be a part of Netflix’s recruiting pipeline, if they aren’t already.
And on top of that, a lot of the CARES Act protections & benefits dry up in summer. Federal student loan payments were suspended; that ends in August. The extra $600 a week on top of unemployment benefits ends July 31. I think (but am not sure) that also means that people who typically aren’t eligible for unemployment…
I initially thought the bottom right was Farrah until I reread the caption. Farrah is on the bottom left. The person on the bottom left is 80 years old and you cannot tell me different.
