I mean, I have had a friend whose lawyer was able to get two legitimate DUIs knocked down in court. As long as you didn’t submit to a breathalyzer, getting a good lawyer is going to substantially increase your chances of not having a DUI on your record which will also increase your chances having better career

Which is horrible for them. Hate speech laws just give power to whoever is in power to shut down speech they don’t like.

You get people with a certain set of skills, in Germany’s case, former members of the East German Secret Police.

“Still, there is definitely a need for tech companies to act with a greater sense of urgency—an hour on the internet can be like a lifetime—and it’s better to have a proposed time limit than simply wait for companies to react to public pressure.”

“Obviously I sent the Uber, I don’t know where to, I know I wouldn’t send it to my house, I knew where I was”

It is a religious school in Texas. There is almost no way this doesn’t get them more donor support.

“Even if I were to pretend that the claim that the argument about preference isn’t just a thin veil over the argument about physical predisposition”

Without going into the whether or not he was correct, the argument was about preference, not ability. Being biologically predisposed to preferring something does not mean you aren’t fit to do something. It means you might prefer to do other things instead. For instance, I am good at accounting, but prefer other work

I am not making any claims on the accuracy of his argument, only that his argument has nothing to do with ability and a bunch to do with preference. He even makes this caveat a couple time. He didn’t claim they were biologically unable.

“James Damore, in which he argued that women were biologically less fit for careers in tech than men.”

You can pursue a youtube career while conducting a regular job. Most of my favorite youtubers have real day jobs. There isn’t any chance involved in creating content in your spare time. At worst, there is a 98% chance you already own the computer. Tor some video editing software. Buy a camera and mic (you can get

“Unless, of course, their content is such that it’s done the way Google likes (short videos and daily-or-faster updates, for starters).”

I think one could argue that their a less gatekeepers as well. Whereas someone has to cast you in acting or book you for comedy, you can just create a channel. That being said, you are as likely or less to be successful, but with youtube, it is a lot harder to blame “the system” for your lack of success.

Quality would be lower and less people would use it. Paying people a small percent of ad revenue to increase viewership makes Youtube more money.

Yeah, one is about not hearing about shootings on the news and the other is about saving people’s lives.

I don’t think he finds issue with the military training people, but that the government would take away a one of your civil right, but still force you to register for selective service.

Sure you will get videos of people doing dumb stuff, but you would have lower quality content, less frequently, and fewer regular users. Think of channels like Mighty Car Mods or Homebuilt by Jeff. Even if they did the same stuff at home, they level of quality increases with almost every episode because they are

Touche!

How is that shaky logic? Youtube doesn’t produce content or at least didn’t until recently. Without rewarding the content makers who driver their traffic and thus their ad revenues, they would be like a blank TV channel, all the functionality, but without anything to watch.

Planned obsolescence?
