Very much this.

I wouldn't say it's /exactly/ like this (the whole grappling hook swingy thing is completely different, as well as the structure of the game), but it definitely is reminiscent.

I tried streets of rage three times before i realized it was going to want the number. You can type "Zelda" but it wants the 2 for SoR?

That screen in B&W is, indeed, too muddy. You can make B&W work in a 3D engine, but it's hard and it dictates your entire art style. Can't really just make it a shader option and not have it look like butt.

I was about to post these links. Bravo.

Nope. Just no. The combat in FF13 is the one thing besides the graphics and the music where the fan consensus was positive. What they need to do is renew their focus on exploration and make likeable (or at least interestingly unlikeable) characters. They seem to be thinking about the characters, at least, with

I agree. I had to push through ME3 despite actively disliking the shooty stuff so I could see the rest of the story. I stopped playing FF13 because, although I was having fun playing the game itself, the story didn't pull me through.

Yes! I wants my Type-0!

It's not so much that it was bad, per se, it's just that I was much more interested in everything else and it always seemed to be getting in the way. Because everything else is the best in the biz. Dammit, I just want to explore this ruined temple, I don't give a fuck about your room of chest-high walls with angry

Wellp. Considering how they never made good on the Wii's "great potential," I'm not exactly holding my breath here.

Looks really similar to Uncharted, in the best possible of ways. Also, the combat in Uncharted was always its weakest point, so hopefully this grittier setting lends itself to less combat that's more intense when it happens. I'm really happy to see Naughty Dog playing to its strengths but refraining from milking

Holy shit something at E3 that isn't just a sequel to a sequel's sequel. I wonder how much it'll end up relying on the shooting, because the other stuff all looked rad.

Meh. DMC was always "dark and edgy". Go back and watch the intro video for the original and then tell me this is drastically different in tone, aside from the very western political stuff and much slicker production values. When DMC came out the whole long trenchcoat demony goth thing was dark and edgy in a trendy

I guess "bratty" is kind of more of the word I would normally have associated with him. Cocky, pissed off, and out for revenge. He shit-talks demons before he kills them. Sure you see a softer side with time, but I wouldn't expect to see that kind of stuff spoiled in a trailer like this.

The /purpose/ of a reboot is to create a new take on the series by changing the established mythos.

It's different because you interact with the different media in different ways. You say there's no reason to expect them to be different, I say there's no reason to expect them to be the same.

Not sure when exactly I stumbled over to i09. I clearly meant in video games.
