Pocahontas, FernGully, Dances With Wolves. Not sure why people get so bent out of shape about that. It repurposes a well-used plot, just like hundreds of other movies. There’s nothing wrong with that. If you want to be mad about something, be mad about literally calling the element they’re fighting over “unobtanium”.

How long since the last one? 12 years since Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, but that one was a prequel; 22 years since 1983's Return of the Jedi, to which it is the first proper sequel.

Equilibrium! When I first watched this movie I wondered why it’s not more popular and well-known. It’s like Matrix meets Brave New World.

Europa Report?

Predestination from 2014 should be on the list. Really twisted time travel movie.

Seems like the first three Matrix movies would be listed, within an article titled, “18 Sci-Fi Movies You Should Watch Before The Matrix 4 Comes Out”

You need to add eXistenZ. It has a similar premise with The Matrix, though maybe on a smaller scale.

Seeing Run, Lola, Run image as the banner reminded me of another film that played boldly with time. Released 3 years before, Nick of Time is a movie I’ve enjoyed watching and recommending for years.

Run Lola Run will forever be a favourite. The soundtrack alone! With the sub setup I have now it’s a house-shaker and perfect to have on in the background while doing other things.

Franka Potente deserved a bigger career after Run Lola Run. A shame.

I’m gonna plug the run on the 2nd Death Star in Return of the Jedi. Rebel fighters tearing across the unfinished surface, around cranes and towers and then into the superstructure; multiple camera angles, fast.  Holds up incredibly well for 1983.

Not clicking through that many slides, but the Independence Day scenes were amazing. I’ll add that when I saw it in the theatre, as the skyscraper in LA is blown up and the explosion travels down the building and washes out toward the audience, a storm knocked out the power at exactly that moment. The best CGI,

No 2001?

And no sequence from 2001: a Space Odyssey makes the cut:

The Matrix Reloaded clone fight scene was laughably awful even by the standards of the CGI when it released.  It does not belong on this list.
