I’m not entirely sure if the dreams I frequently have can be classed as “lucid”; they are always ultra-detailed, generally long, I sometimes (not often, unfortunately...) have extra-ordinary abilities, but I’m not sure about conscious control of myself (or whatever character I’m “following” in the dream) in them. I find cheese before bed helps; and that “wake up then go back to sleep” is the best time for dreaming.

My theory is that we are always dreaming; ie. the brain is always doing the “data shuffling” that is dreaming, but when we are awake, reality overwhelms the “internal” stuff. Which is why we can day-dream, if we aren’t thinking about anything in particular... Read more

Yeah, a friend of found the same: all the time putting “hidden” notes into his calculator (TI-82, IIRC; this was back in 1994...) meant he learned it all anyway.

As with Uber (etc) drivers, they’ve mostly missed the point of the “gig economy”. They’re trying to eat soup with a fork, then complaining about the fork AND the soup...

While this is impressive and pretty cool, this is a wind-up toy, from nearly 200 years earlier. The history of mechanical devices is fascinating; the complexity (and tiny scale, in some cases) of the systems is incredible.
