California servers make the normal minimum wage-so even if they earn 18% they are still doing better than any other minimum wage employee.

Also, servers in Washington make minimum wage. So doubling the tax is more than enough.

1) Don’t work for tips if you can’t afford it.

Not arguing about the tip, but in a metro area $200 a week is only like 2-3 dinners for two. For people in a metro area who work full-time and likely have a long commute on public transit, eating out multiple times a week is not uncommon.

Thank you for saying this. It’s also weird to declare that “ethnic” food is from dirt poor communities. A lot of what we call “ethnic” food in the US is the cuisine of middle and/or upper classes.

Being completely un-snarky: a paternalistic attitude toward younger siblings can prevent the development of healthy boundaries. Some people here are probably pushing back against your attitude because they have dealt with similar harmful attitudes in their own lives.
