I understand people have different circumstances and some people have no need to commute by car. Since i earn bread by having a vehicle it is a necessary expense. That said, i buy comfortable reliable cars that i can run as long as possible, because as you said they never gain equity so I try to use them as long as

I like this. It reminds me of where Honda came from, as Honda has a fantastic story and a great history filled with many great cars/bikes/engines.

Agreed 100%. The Volvo would make me feel like a boss and I LOVE me some Volvo, the VW, although I like the Corrado and other VW gems of the era, it would make me feel like a teen. Mostly because i had a MKII GTI 16V as a teen.

I prefer "pretentious" but yes in essence I am a bit of a cynical sarcastic asshole, but its part of my charm! But nonetheless thank you for clarifying i'm not a total disgrace.

If you read through all of this like a good little pawn you would have noticed that I have posted about 8 times this was posted jokingly and sarcastically for the most part. I was merely harping over the obsession with not being a vehicle owner so many people I know are affected with. By the way, I am a cyclist

Yet again, a lot of sarcasm here. Cars are a depreciating asset indeed. This is why I own two older cars with a combined worth under $11k. I didn't pay much for either vehicle, both are paid for and run well and don't cost me a lot of money to keep going. I drive on average 600+ miles a week from jobsite to jobsite,

Most likely a good idea.

Good for you. Want a cookie?

I used to split commute car then bike when i worked in the city. Id drive my car to easy, free and safe parking a few blocks form where i worked, and I would ride my bike the last few blocks to work. I own a TREK and ride for fun now since i live miles from anything. I have never worn lance Armstrong pants, i do not

I blame MTV.

If you were next to me in a bar having this discussion, I would purchase you a fine adult beverage of your choosing. Good post!

Post is meant to be read mostly sarcastically, as hardcore bicycle commuters tout "Cars are ruining America". I'm a bit pretentious, but I don't think I'm any better than anyone else.

Decline in interest in the automobile is what i was harping over. Most of this posting is a joke.

Thank you sir. If only sarcasm could be detected over the internet.

People cannot yet detect sarcasm over the internet! Most of that was joking, but really the decline in interest in cars and car culture is just what really saddens me. I own a bike and i ride it for exercise and fun around the trails out where i live. I don't hate bikes, i dislike public transport because I lived in

Sarcasm, as they say cars are "all that's wrong with america". So yes, that was meant jokingly.

Hybrid better than manual transmission?

I live in Northern Maryland, Native of Baltimore City Thank you very much. Have experience with both.

I don't mind the bikes and public transport as i live in the country and they have little effect on me. Its the decline in interest in the automobile i was harping over.

I use "everything wrong with america" as sarcasm. The "one less car" people say cars are what ruins america. Everyone got so butthurt over a simple statement. I am quite amused by the incredibly insane responses.
