All-in-ones are widely considered to be a subset of desktop computers. If you don’t agree, fine, but your opinion is not the standard.

That is a very frustrating scenario, but also could have easily been avoided if you turned off autoupdating. If you have such dependent software, you should be turning off autoupdate, backing up consistently, and keeping copies of previous installs no matter what OS/machine you use. Your situation seems easily…

turn it off, you don’t have to have the OS update automatically. and are you talking a point update, or a new OS? and really, those were apple’s responses? you should have hung up, called back... and gotten another support person.

So you admit this is not an Apple problem. It’s a problem with your company, their policies, and their inept IT department.

Why would you let your mac automatically update itself if it was so important to have a specific OS version. There is a setting in system preferences to turn off automatic updates. Even Windows will do automatic updates if you allow it. Seems like user error, not something that is Apple’s fault.

Uhh...you can get OS versions going back to like, 10.4 off the Apple store if you go to the right Apple support articles. I just downloaded 10.6 a couple weeks ago to reinstall on a computer that was mistakenly updated.
