Huh, half hour drama - pretty unusual in 2017.

Aisha Tyler as Esme!

Ehhhhhhh its a lot of art schoolers and Dinosaur Jr clones. The rest of the scene is a lot better but its very divided up into small mini scenes.

Hoffman is so so good at making Dodd charming and super fun and also showing how he's created his own little tyrannical world (and is trapped in it as well).

Definitely my favorite actor working along with someone like Michelle Williams.

It took me awhile to truly love the movie but I outright gaped when he thrashed and squirmed in the theater. Amazing.

Just wanted to reiterate my belief that Joaquim Phoenix as Freddie Quells is one of the greatest performances in cinema, a complex, wild mess of a acting job filled with raw energy and a pain that can feel alien to us but also very real (and the rest of the cast is no slouch).

He's at what a 30 percent approval rating? That's fucking *low*

Yeah Pete *could* be a Reagan Democrat. Trying to claim any of these characters for Trump is a little weird - its like they're forgetting that the Mad Men characters were assholes sometimes but not particularly stupid. Trump is clearly weird and dumb, not exactly classy to them.

Pete would be utterly grossed out. Roger would like Trump maybe.

I'd call Don a sexist but not a chauvinist (if that makes sense, maybe there isn't a significant difference). He isn't entirely comfortable with powerful women and has serious issues with the whore-madonna thing which is rooted in his childhood obviously, but also appreciates Peggy and Sally's strengths and

Its pretty amazing. Its the closest TV has come to 20th century American literature.

Personally I'm fine with Don actually attaining some real peace - the big difference between Matt Weiner and David Chase is Weiner thinks clearly that people can change and sometimes for the better. The show's ending is both hilariously funny (its essentially a punchline) and a deeply moving affirmation from a person

I totally agree though I know playing Draper was something that he didn't really enjoy doing (much like Gandolfini it seems like it took a real toll on him emotionally). I think he's just relaxing.

And I'm good with that. I think I chafe against it because an awful lot of hollow art rock is in my local scene because people here seem to be repelled by emotional stuff that isn't just flat out emo.

It's almost like writing about suffering or pain is universal…

Yeah I can't watch this crap anymore. Words aren't *that* fucking pliable, you can't just use the word "destroy" or "eliminate" when that's clearly not what Bee is doing. She's broadcasting to an audience who already agrees with her - that's not strictly a bad thing but its not all that fucking effective.

Very confused by that as well - Nebraska isn't even a very personal record save "My Father's House". It's composed of stories almost entirely built on economic hardship and crime. This isn't really sad bastard music, its more outright despairing and fucking desperate.

Isn't that Master of None episode explicitly about how Aziz's character *is* using feminism to broadcast feelings then dismissing actual complaints by women? That was pretty loudly and clearly meant as a criticism of Dev.

I thought of her doing Sextina Aquafina in Bojack and also Lana of course and thought Esme is like a shallower, meaner Lana.
