Good luck to them. They have a lot at steak.

Am I the only one that strongly dislikes the demise of the corsshairs? The telephone handset looks dumb and the other one looks like a slightly nicer aftermarket grille. Actually it really looks like the old 300 grille:
Frank Zappa approves. Or he would if he were still alive.
Yep. Been pulled over before on the stock exhaust on an old ‘86 Fiero GT, which itself is nowhere near as loud as modern Corvettes are at WOT.
The law doesnt even require them to measure! People are missing the point we all agree that violators are to be prosecuted and we all agree that 95 db is a good limit. The problem with the law is it is not requiring any testing in the field and once that ticket is written you have to fight it in court
The way it will really work is that as you are sitting at the side of the road waiting for the officer to get back to you for going 59 in a 55 mph zone on the last day of the quota period, the cop will be thinking, “What else can I write this guy up for? Hey, that exhaust sounded loud...”
Guess I have to keep posting this example? This is the reason they send you to a ref station (from what I have been able to gather). Think of it as the BAC blood test at the station vs. the field sobriety test. Cop thinks your car is loud but ref station says it isn’t? The ticket will get thrown out of court = no fine
True. They just have more of a monetary incentive to do so now.
And that is why I would immediately challenge this ticket in court. A subjective judgement without any objective state sponsored measuring device is extremely challengeable in court.
If that’s what a fair law requires, so be it. They can’t just give you a DWI because they feel like you are drunk, there are a few (arguably) objective ways they verify you are drunk.
Most likely not, but the point of all this is that the ticket is subjective; all the officer has to do is think it’s too loud and they can write a ticket.
Except they arn’t measuring it quantitatively, they are just guessing.
Ah... There’s the I don’t care what the law is, it’s not what I feel it should be, so screw you response.
Let’s put aside for a moment the fact that we have a demonstrable problem with giving discretion to officers and prosecutors as to what is ‘reasonable.’
I’m not as confident in that as you seem to be. The way the average cop thinks is more like, “That car is a lot louder than the other cars around it. It must be too loud. I’m gonna write a ticket.”
I know. I’m a musician.
Yeah, sounds to me more like giving cops one more reason for “probable cause” to pull over people and go on a fishing expedition.
GT3RS, GT350 and Viper ACR all pop 95 db at Laguna Seca sound check. All stock. That is why the SAE standard prescribes exact conditions to test under. Cars can be louder than what the standard shows.
People who are complicit to a police state that pass laws which can drag you to court over a subjective decision are irritating anyways
Great. My stock exhaust is loud as hell.
