Stop throwing around the word “troll” when you really mean, “this person disagrees with me and I can’t counter anything factual so I will try to attack their point by calling them a troll.” That’s stupid.

That was only one example. Google will actually do this for any place you search for on Google.
Not only that, but Google Now recognizes your daily commute times (once you’ve told Google your home and your work) and will automatically give you a heads up regarding traffic conditions.
The money is better as a freelancer, until you take into account the fact that you’re solely responsible for payroll taxes, you get no vacation (i.e., you don’t work, you don’t get paid), you get no health care, you get no job security, etc....
As someone self-employed, you also have to pay all of the payroll taxes which sucks. My mother consults and she hates tax time because she always underestimates the amount of money she’ll make (contracts pop up through the year and there’s no real good way to estimate it) and she always ends up owing. That and she has…
Nope. Because that is not illegal and really couldn’t ever be illegal. What is illegal, and what is happening here, is Apple defying a lawful court order.
Word salad, look into it.
It’s not. In fact, Apple’s position is ridiculous as it’s literally contrary to the Constitution and over 200 years of jurisprudence.
They literally could do it, they just couldn’t load the OS onto a stock iPhone without a custom recover that would bypass the signature.
Actually, I’m smart. I’m a federally licensed attorney who’s practice specializes in technology and tax. This is exactly in my wheelhouse.
First, you’re assuming encryption is the same, as if Apple couldn’t update it. Second, there’s literally nothing on the planet stopping another country from doing this other than jurisdictional issues.
They’re talking about enlisting super computers to cut down on the computational time. I have no idea how long it would take with a super computer, but I’d imagine a lot faster than brute forcing with some high powered GPUs.
How in the hell could Apple be compelled to release it to every iPhone owner? Even the FBI is stating that Apple can destroy the custom OS after it’s been used. Further, the custom OS is tied to the IMEI of the terrorist’s phone.
5th Amendment protects against incriminating statements likely to lead to criminal charges. There’s definitely an argument that, let’s say, someone’s password to an encrypted drive containing child porn would lead to criminal charges.
That’s assuming they download the OS. Moreover, it’s tied to that single phone. The FBI could reverse engineer and make it apply to every phone, but they likely could reverse engineer iOS right now and do just that. I’m sure if they devoted the efforts, the government could crack Apple’s signing keys.
If another government seeks to do that and uses their legal system, sure, why not?
The same could be said about you, you’re either incredibly naive or you’re incredibly disingenuous.
Absolutely. It’s literally the premise of the criminal justice system. When you commit a thought or action to a tangible medium (in this case, tangible would include video, hard drives, etc...), that is discoverable evidence if its discovery is pursuant to a valid warrant or an exception to the 4th Amendment.
Actually, the FBI stated that Apple would be in possession of the cracked OS and could destroy it after it was used. So, the FBI would never have a master key, so to speak.
Did you know that the FBI has repeatedly stated that only Apple would have the OS? Once it was used, it would be destroyed. The FBI would never take possession of the cracked OS.
