I’ve been following the AV Club under various guises going back to the early 2000's. It’s tragic how far the site has fallen.

I wish I knew. What I always liked about the AV Club was that the writers were pop culture fans firs. After that, they were critics, pop culture encyclopedias amd friendly with the commentariat. They were hardly your standard entertainment reporters. Thank god for that. I don’t know a lot of websites like this - or

Here’s what’s coming to and leaving AV Club in Spring 2022!

I can’t delete my comment, so I’ll make this post. G/O Media sucks and treats their employees like shit. I feel bad for those who were pushed around and pushed out. As much as I can, I stand with those editors and writers who are getting screwed over. It’s a shame. This website used to be wonderful. It had a culture

The Roku Channel is literally free on the web and a lot of devices (including our Samsung TV). Not the same as a Roku box.

Aw, tou’ve been one of my favorite GMG writers, Allison! And I am decidedly not a great cook, but every recipe of yours turned out great.

Words cannot express how sad I am to see you leave this site. You truly are the byline that I will always click on. I looked forward to you moving to Chicago (Damn you, Covid!) and providing you wicked insight to our food scene. Farewell and safe travels.

Brian Cox need never apologize for turning down a role.

I don’t know if this is the instance the OP is referring to, but Tarantino played the part of the “hands” of Waltz’s character, during the strangling scene of Kruger’s character. There was a big to-do around it, when Uma’s stories started coming out. That was specifically when Diane chimed-in, saying her time working

I don’t know how you’d accomplish this but this article reminds me how awesome I have always thought it would be if you could have like an “anti-roast” where you just go on and on about how fucking awesome someone is but not at their death or birthday or when they win an award or are terminally ill.  (I actually

Warm take: everything is terrible, and lying to keep fun plot details sorta-kinda secret is ok actually.

The good news for James Corden is that there’s no sense of taste that COVID could possibly kill.

The B5 reboot will probably be moved to HBO Max, just like Stargirl was.

thank you for reminding me of space pants

Maybe it can both be an anti-racist allegory and also problematically anti-Semitic? Maybe an author can both support “good” things and still have myriad conscious and unconscious biases? Maybe people aren’t always (or, indeed, rarely are) 100% intellectually and morally consistent?

That, or its so casually accepted that people would rather hold onto their half-hearted care for minor characters in pieces of genre fiction that they don’t even like than actually interrogate the origins of this supposed “mythological folklore”. That we’re so inundated with these caricatures that we don’t see them

Have you considered that maybe the folkloric depictions of goblins are, themselves, laden with anti-Semitic tropes

I’ll be frank, friend. It’s easier to say that now, and it doesn’t really get to the larger point: that while the TERF stuff isn’t in the content of the book, the goblin/Jewish stuff is, and is frankly in a LOT of myth/fantasy/sci-fi stuff, and we ALL just take it for granted, and literally billions of people don’t

It was one of those things where I saw it on the screen and I was expecting the crowd to be like, ‘Holy shit, she did not, in a wizarding world, just throw Jews in there to run the fucking underground bank.’ And everybody was just like, ‘Wizards.’
