I specifically avoid movies that are entirely about jump scares: they always feel cheap and unearned to me. I’m not sure what compels people to play a game specifically because of the jump scares. To each their own I guess.

I know Bateman’s won directing awards for Faking Bad, but I haven’t seen it -- how is it?
I saw A Ghost Story a few years ago but if I remember correctly, it seemed like they shot it in 33 fps but played it back in 24 so the movement seemed slower, which is slightly different.
The worst is complaining about homeless AND protesting every single new development because it’ll “change the character of my neighborhood.”
I also remember listening to a This American Life where he talks about being obsessed with rewriting The Phantom Menace. Even though it’s mostly about informal obsession, his ideas for the movie were good.
Ah right, totally forgot about that! Probably a lot easier than projecting a movie in 60fps+ but rendering the movie in 24fps.
I’m guessing that seeing this in 60fps will be “good enough” (famous last words)? I don’t think normal people can really tell the difference. Gamers can probably tell the difference, but only because they have agency over their games and can test things out until they’re sure.
This study is lacking in context. I would hazard that the demographic they cite is largely the demographic that visits fast food restaurants (or that visits Popeyes). To get a real sense of who eats the chicken sandwich, you have to compare these numbers against other fast food chains, or against Popeye’s numbers…
I’ve played this game a bit, and the variance really dings it for me. I think because your HP levels are so low, flipping over a streak of high-damage monsters on the third or fourth floor of a level just feels so demoralizing.
Maybe I missed something, I don’t really agree that the Fleabag ending was a cliffhanger. It seemed pretty cut and dried to me, in a way that would mean another season would feel forced.
If I’m remembering correctly, Chipotle’s vegetarian options come with free guacamole.
John Hodgman is a poor man’s John Teti.
I must say, I don’t really agree with dinging a book for its marketing campaign. That’s as wrong to me as judging it by its cover.
Gray’s moving out from its 8th St and 6th Ave location is one of my biggest NYC losses. The UWS location doesn’t have nearly the same sense of neighborhood belongingness as the 8th St one.
Well, murder is illegal, so if someone kills this guy, someone else will see it and help the authorities with the investigation.
Now let’s forget all our troubles with a big bowl of strawberry ice cream.
I agree. So on the nose.
Any hot dog with anything more than ketchup and mustard is a salad.
I can’t imagine Jennifer Coolidge inflicting any trauma on a young Stifler, unless in your universe he was raised by his deadbeat dad instead.
