“Budding novelist Patrick Rothfuss died before his third book came out
because he was doing a stunt for charity going to kiss a llama" got a proper laugh out of me, so I'm pretty much obligated to check out at least one of his books.

This weekend I watched the stylish Iranian-American vampire picture A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night. The film is an unquestionably unique creation, mixing its Iranian-specific social commentary with a plot and aesthetic that takes inspiration from moody noirs.

Ha, precisely.

I already gushed at length about The Witcher 3 last week, but needless to say I'll be continuing to pour even more time into this game's wonderfully realized world over the coming weekend.

Holy Shit.

The idealist who abandons his principles in the face of wartime demands, are we sure this isn't a Generation War prequel?

Fairly so, my summoner is level 50 and item level 103 abouts so I'm fairly well set on that front. But there's still a bunch of stuff in the core game, namely acquiring my relic weapon and beating a few of the remaining extreme trials, that still need doing.

The central hub was something I enjoyed as well, as you say it gave the game a nice sort of nice rhythm and because the game largely eschewed fast travel there was that proper feeling of going out adventuring every time. It's a bit of an odd game, but definitely a neat one by and large.

I'll be continuing to binge play The Witcher 3, which has been consuming nearly all of my time this past week and I wholly intend for it to do the same over the long weekend.

It did piss me off last night when I saw some footage of one of the guys doing BASE jumping or something with his dog strapped to his back.

"Martial arts studies come in…'This kid…is inhuman!'"

To play the insufferable hipster card, it felt like as more people trickled in during the show's latter stages you started to get the more outlandish plot theories.

His movies are basically the definition of middle-brow, and yet, he actually can direct action pretty well. Last Samurai and Blood Diamond have got some good stuff in them, and outside of that I'd say Glory qualifies as a legit good film.

I'm on PC but playing with a controller, I haven't played Mordor or Arkham so I can't really say on that level though.

I played it for several hours yesterday and am loving the hell out of it so far, the work they've done on making the open-world really feel organic and lived-in is pretty remarkable. Just a real wealth of details and small touches, from the visuals to sound design, that have really impressed me.

Largely on a whim, though perhaps compelled by Mad Men coming to an end, I set out this past week to start watching The Sopranos in its entirety.

F-fuck you Titan EX.

While there's plenty of lesser examples that are simply a bit dull, I'll always have a soft spot for that very particular subgenre of "men-on-a-mission" World War Two movies that were released in large numbers in the 1960s like Where Eagle's Dare, The Great Escape, The Guns of Navarone and Von Ryan's Express.

"Only 90s kids will understand this ref…"
