Please stop trying to estimate US pricing based on a direct currency conversion from Euros. It’s going to be wrong every single time. EU pricing includes VAT, which is 19% in Germany. So, take German pricing, divide it by 1.19, then convert to USD. Using today’s rates, a 106k EUR car would translate to a $105k USD

Front half looks like a duck bill :(

Correct. I guess if the methanol is produced in Iceland, the energy input for the conversion is almost certainly geothermal, so from that standpoint it’s kind of cool, but... are they just going to sell these cars in Iceland? Probably not.

I’m not a Tesla stan, but just about everyone outside of car enthusiasts does think all driving is boring, and they’d rather not do it. Tesla isn’t making cars for you. It’s making cars for the other 99% of people who want make their life simpler. Hell, I’m an avid car enthusiast, and I’d rather not bother driving to

I hadn’t looked at what my car is worth since I bought it until just now, and it’s shocking. It’s an ‘06 Cayman S w/ 45k miles and all the options, and I paid $24k 4 years ago. It has about 70k miles now, and similar cars on Autotrader appear to be asking about ~$28k on average. Insane. I figured it was probably

The article states that residents won’t be able to register ICE cars bought in other states, and it sounds like Washington residents will still be able to buy and register a 2029 or older ICE car forever since the ban is only on new car sales after 2030. So, no, I can’t imagine why there would be an influx of new

The X5 xdrive50i, which is a better comparison than than the base model X5 based on performance specs, starts at $76k. With EV incentives, the iX is pretty darn close, and there’s a lot of people in this market who would probably be happy to pay extra for an EV version.

I don’t know that it’s easier to learn on a motorcycle given that you also have balance to worry about, but the skill definitely transfers to a car. My girlfriend grew up riding dirt bikes but had never driven a manual. I told her to try driving my car (a manual), and she had no problem whatsoever. I don’t think she ev

For me it was replacing my rotors & pads. There’s a higher bar for entry since a lot of people might be nervous about fiddling with a safety critical system, but after doing it you realize how easy working on cars can be even for “scary” jobs. At the end of the day, it’s pretty much just all nuts and bolts. Now I have

Thanks for being pedantic so I didn’t have to be. I had the exact same thought.

100hp on what will surely be a 4,000+ lb vehicle? What on earth was VW thinking? Even 200hp on the “X” version seems barely sufficient.

100%. Riding a motorcycle helps a lot with this. I considered myself a good driver and very situationally aware before I learned to ride, but when you take the mindset of “everything around you might kill you”,  it really amplifies awareness, and all of that translates into your mindset when driving a car as well.

Video is fake

The US doesn’t subsidize gas. It taxes it, just at a rate far lower than EU countries do (~$0.18 / gallon in US vs ~$1.53 / gallon in EU based on a quick Google search). Yes, the US provides subsidies to the energy companies that produce / refine / distribute the gas, and those subsidies may be reflected in the pump

I think the “scary maintenance costs” associated with high end cars stems from dealer labor & official parts. I currently have an ‘06 Cayman S, and prior to that I had an E46 M3, and both were very reasonable to maintain and/or fix. Granted, I have a lift, lots of tools, and good mechanical aptitude, so maintenance is

I agree - the box shape is likely going to drive down highway range considerably, but their target customer is likely going to be using this for local delivery type jobs where maximizing interior space is more important than highway range. At lower speeds on local roads, aerodynamics are much less of a factor.

Yep, I can’t imagine another reasonable answer for car enthusiasts other than a German high performance long roof. I think I’d personally go E63 AMG, but an RS6 would definitely be under consideration. Towing might be a consideration for someone with toys or boats to pull, but I think I’d rather rent a truck for those

Yep. It’s shocking how often (almost always) auto journalists just do a straight currency conversion. VAT is not difficult to understand in concept, and the rates by country are very easily found with a quick google search. Because of this idiotic mistake, all of the comments are now “omg so expensive”, even though

Totally. She very quickly jumped to the top of my list of writers here.

The only group I can think of is current Harley riders, who are also very brand loyal, that want to get into dual sport riding. Although, based on most Harley riders I see, that’s likely to be a pretty small market.
