Have you ever driven a powerful electric car? I genuinely want to know. When the transmission is always in the correct gear, *the only gear*, trying to change it by adding “shifting” is just annoying, un-smooth, time consuming, and slow.

So, does this mean Corvettes, CTS coupes, and ELRs will also have to be recalled... they don’t even have exterior door handles, just a button in the door grip.

The side windows are standard tempered glass. The rear window is laminated.

And dealerships wonder why Tesla is trying to avoid this nonsense. Put down a deposit from your phone (with Apple Pay!), then you come pick up the car with a check.
I know people who loved Saturn for the same reason, they loved how easy the buying process was.

A close 2nd to Christine would be an 80s Mercedes S Class with the turbodiesel. EMP proof, and can run on many different fuels in a pinch.

You also should have pinch protection, which needs a motor sensor and computer. The Germans have had this in their power windows for 20 years. Toyota might not still - they have a simple window circuit.

If they had put a fast enough processor in the HMI computer (the thing which drives the touchscreen) CUE wouldn’t be so bad. They did improve this in 2016 with the HMI 3.0. Later cars also ditched the all capacitive controls for some membrane like buttons.

Thankfully, the dealer did a warranty replacement of the CUE screen in my 14 ELR when I had another radio complaint.

Nope. IIHS goes to local dealers to buy them. That way the car is “normal”.

“ Why do they need to even worry about this?”
Trying to get a competitive advantage by not following emissions regs is the reason Dieselgate happened.

And, they were available with an automatic. That moves off in 2nd gear...

Or, you could just put the key next to the RFID reader...

Yes. This. And even if the app totally fails (or your phone battery is dead, or your key battery is dead) you have the backup RFID card on the model 3, and chip in the key on the S / X.

It did not. I went out and tested during the outage. Bluetooth unlock on our Model 3 worked fine, as did the prox card.

They did fix the seats finally! There was a “slient” change half way through the 2019 model year. The seats look the same, but actually fit a person now.

Do the fixed 15s do “blow torch mode”, where once the coolant gets to ~110*f the engine management starts doing post injection, and cranks the exhaust temps up to 1200*f, and boost up to 20 PSI as you toodle along? This was a big problem on our (pre-fix) 12 Passat. Many people blew turbos because of this warm up

Having a phone key is one of my favorite things about our Model 3. I don’t need to remember go grab a different key, and if my phone battery dies or otherwise screws up, I keep the RFID card in my wallet.
In my ELR, in the winter I start a precondition cycle when I wake up using the app so the car is warm when I

I’m thinking the bungs on the exhaust were for an air pump setup.

G05 Coolant :)

The first car my mother bought new was an... I think 88? Prisim. It didn’t have automatic seatbelts. It was the metallic gray color, with a gray interior and 5 speed. It never gave any trouble. It died when mom turned left in front of an F250... thankfully he hit the front of the car, not the passenger compartment.
