In case you wondered, if this car’s injection pump is timed correctly and the injectors are in good shape it puts out less NOx than a 2009-2014 Jetta. The new car puts out *much* less soot and hydrocarbons though.
The current 2015 Passat Limited Edition... AKA leftover pre-facelift models with a few extra equipment options and a silly fender badge.
My dealer will price match online prices, so this would be good for things like oil, filters, and other parts. I might use it to get a new grille for my V10 Touareg :D
Ah the Cavalier... Quality from A to Z!
I live in Fairfaix county. I was given a ticket for no inspection while turning into the parking lot of the inspection station. (I had just moved to VA from MI) Sigh...
I heard of something like this happening to a W123 300D that caught fire due to a short in the climate control system. As the car burned all the lights came on, the engine started, and then revved to redline (cruise control perhaps).
I don’t know how they are thinking they kept the cars in cheat mode. I talked with one of the premier TDI tuners, who has seen the cheat software in the ECU and understands it. One of the things it looks at is rate of acceleration, if RPMs change more than 300 per second it goes back to road mode.
“A fix could mean urea fill-ups at 5,000 miles instead of 10,000 miles.”
I can’t begin to understand why they did this. Perhaps they were tired of EGRs plugging up all the time, and didn’t want consumer reports to write a nasty review when the Refill Adblue warning came on in their Passat at 3000 miles?
Sorry you’re confused. Passats got AdBlue from the start. Here I am refilling the tank:
On the Passat yes, thanks to the magic of AdBlue. Will I end up having to refill the DEF tank every 5,000 miles instead of every 15,000? Probably. Will it end up needing the intake de-gunked every 50k due to the extra EGR? That remains to be seen.
The LeanNox trap found in the Golf / Jetta / Beetle from 09-14 is…
I think many people would accuse VW owners of being illogical. I own a V10 so I must be at least partially crazy!
My 99.5 went through five power window regulators before the 2003 fix finally came. No failures since!
You’re going to recommend some get a hybrid from the company that took from 1985 to 2003 to design a power window regulator that didn’t fail all the time? Brave.
I’m going to continue driving my ‘12 Passat TDI, and will continue doing so after the recall. On the Passats anyway I expect it to be software only , and not…
Yes. Noraml adblue usage is 3% of fuel used. Our Passat uses about 1%. I expect that after the recall is done it will go up to 3%, which means the tank will need refilled every 5,000 miles instead of ever 15,000.
They did it for 2012 in the Passat (note that 12-13 Passats aren’t named in this, but 14s are), and 2015 for all other 4 cylinder models.
