If you don't associate a twitter account with the iPhone, you won't see the links to tweet things. It will probably take up 5mb HD space, and 0MB of ram if you don't use it. It's like the biggest non deal ever.

I haven't seen the source code, but my guess would be yes, it constantly queries. It has a setting to say how frequently you want updates to come in. The more frequently you set the quicker you reach your API limit, so it seems to just be querying more often.

Probably a joke... but... a lot of apps that companies and users are using to check twitter are very chatty. My tweet deck sits on my laptop constantly checking for new tweets, plus I check from my phone when away from the PC.
