I find it kind of funny, not diminishing people’s complaints. They are legitimate as comedy is a very subjective form of entertainment but they are literally complaining about things that are features of Iannucci’s work as if they are bugs.

I’m curious how many people in this thread actually watched Iannucci’s earlier work. Comedy is subjective, as such your takes are all fine and understandable, but this series is entirely in line with all his work to date (Veep being the most Americanized version and a little less pointed than his British work).
I would totally get behind a Laris and Zhaban spin off (or at least some short treks). They are a delight!
Solid take, I haven’t heard this before but love John Hodgeman. I love world building where they build out the flesh and connective tissue of the universe. Not just the technological structure that makes its skeleton but also the cultural connections like music. This is why I love The Expanse.
That is a fucking nightmare world. A world where there is no expression but recreation of the past? No innovation? That seems contrary to the very core of Trek’s ethos. I love academia but there needs to be a robust expression of art and that includes pop art.
Yeah, except that isn’t manifesting in reality (print still outstrips e-readers) and anyhow that was an example of things that remain unchanged to now. It wasn’t a thing that would necessarily be unchanged in the show’s future. Just an issue of design asthetic. There has to be a huge fundamental reason for the change…
I don’t know your relationship with mental health so don’t want to assume but there’s an entire subset of mental health issues that include a distrust of the people who would treat you for your mental health issues (to see an in the news example look to Jake Lloyd and his mother’s recent release regarding his mental…
Which is the nice part of episode 3, it’s trying to break us of our idolatry of the man in a gentle manner. He’s flawed and he’s not treated all his personnel equally. It’s not deliberate it’s the sins of a man who’s suffering in his own way. We aren’t intended to hate him, we should still love him but it’s a case of…
I totally agree, the pedantry of certain circles of a variety of fandoms (not just Trek) is exhausting. I mean there are always concerns and complaints that are legitimate but stuff like swearing and very simple designs is insane (especially when we all know why they didn’t swear and it was never a stated element of…
Okay, where does this fit on the time line? Is Kitty back?
Beautiful! I could go back again and again just for Batuu. It was a real joy, I got to ride Rise of the Resistance twice (I was the +1 on a kid swap where the kid was a little nervous to ride). Even if I didn’t go on a single ride the experience alone of walking those streets is a joy. I wish I stuck around until…
Agree to disagree
Trek always truly soared when it reflected the world around it. Classic Trek taking on the cold war and racism, TNG taking on hidden and obscured bigotry and cyncial corruption, DS9 the war mongering... it was all some of the best social science fiction out there. This is the Trek we need in 2020 and Picard is…
Holy crap, great premise and a voice cast to die for. I am looking forward to this!
Hope you get another chance, I do the same thing in my home town. When something is so close it doesn’t feel like there’s pressure to go. If I was 20 minutes away I’d likely be the same. We’re going to relish every moment of it since we’re so far away. I just need to win the lotto so I can go when ever I want. ;-)
Thanks, already have the apps loaded up and ready to slice the planet. :-) Going to be reading the novel on the flight down to get the back story. :-) I’ve been studing the lingo for ages, a bunch of it is familiar from my days playing Star Wars D20 games thanks for the tips and may the Force be with you as well. :-)
THANKS! This is an awesome tip!
Awesome! Well have a blast! I’ve been wanting to go since I was a kid and I’m glad we’re going with a friend and her daughter. I want to experience it with a kid.
Thanks for the tip, there’s a 20% discount for Canadians (we booked ages ago to get the pre-gondola rates for the hotel and saved a couple hundred dollars that’s one whole replica lightsabre). We were planning on that. I think you have a point, there was all this talk of Galaxy’s Edge being a flop I think people were…
Again, like Trek, it’s using established in universe rules. Star Killer base fired the beam using hyperspace routes. This allowed for faster than light travel. Yes it’s silly but so is 99% of sci-fi and fantasy. They all operate under their own internal rules and while you may not like them as long as they are…
