Diesels cost a lot more than an gas engine, and hybrid drivetrains add a lot of expense as well. Then there is the cost differential for diesel (note this morning at a gas station I pass every day on the way to work, regular was $2.21/gallon and diesel was $2.89 gallon).

I used to work for Link at their HQ in Plymouth, Michigan - they have the largest independent brake test lab in the world, where they test everything from large truck brakes to race car brakes (which ARE fun to watch when they glow cherry red!).
