I really enjoyed it. I wanted this to be one of those books that I pass on to my mom and say "OMG, you have to read this!" which I would have if it had 70% less sex in it. That being said, I will enjoy it myself and never mention word of this book to my mom.

I was hoping The Invisibles wasn't on this list, and it wasn't. I had heard from several different sources that it was awesome. I bought the first two novels and was completely disappointed.

Wow. I really don't like James Cameron, now. I WANT 3D to die. All the worst movies are being made in 3D—and I thought Piranha was one of the better movies.

Fabulous. Many favorites in that list. Norman Spinrad made me chuckle.

@teenagers: I second what Spidersthrash just said. Nicolas Cage... I mean, how can you NOT love this man?

@Graviton1066: It's given a nod in General Relativity—but only in the form of traveling faster than light.

I was just about to whine about Michael Whelan, then he squeaked in at the end. :) Great list!

This is the best idea I've ever heard, Annalee. I've been piece-mailing my background in scifi for about 10 years now. I tend to base my decisions on what the general horde seems to deem worship-worthy. I don't think this is the best way to go about this.

Downloaded the book and started two days ago. It's definitely intriguing and has me itching to continue.

@Mali Burek: Resident Evil, 28 Days Later, Day of the Triffids, etc. —it's not a unique opening for an apocalyptic story. That was the only thing that bothered me with the novels.

@Lindindin: I had just read The Day of the Triffids a month before I saw 28 Days Later. In The Day of the Triffids, the character woke up in a hospital to a world of chaos. I was pretty mad at 28 Days Later for ripping off The Day of the Triffids.

@Palmerlime: I'm more shocked that you are just now realizing this. ;)

@HumphreyLee: "I'm still down with books like Sweet Tooth, Walking Dead, Scalped, Unwritten, etc... the really good stuff,"

@Surrender Dorothy: Ah, understandable. ;) You did have me freaking out a bit there for a second, though.

I have the two previous books in hardcover. I have been meaning to read them for a while now, but other books come up in importance (*ahem io9bookclub*). I keep hearing fabulous things about them. I will definitely buy Mockingjay before I even start Hunger Games.

@MonkeyT: O_O You have my attention. Please, go on.
