$3,500 will get you something with airbags, and most likely ABS. Stability control isn’t going to do much on a sub-150hp FWD car, which is what you’ll mostly find in that range.

Because it’s not just about the engine. It’s about actual effective power. Why should I care that a car has a lot of power if it isn’t effective at turning that power into something useful? Engine power is just a number to brag about.
