How is the Taurus confusing things? The Nissan Maxima, Toyota Avalon, Chevy Impala are part of a 4 sedan line up at other companies and don’t create confusion.

It’s an interesting, epistemological question: is the car doing the driving the car an sich, or is a it a representation of the stereotypes that apply to the people who typically buy such a vehicle- a metonym, if you like.
