I miss the ‘60s vacuum gauges. One like this in my Barracuda enabled me to drive with the maximal trade-off between power and efficiency at any time. The counter-rotation of the needle when accelerating was always fascinating entertainment.
I know someone who googled this weekend to see what was wrong with their car. I swear if you can’t pass a warning light test you shouldn’t be allowed to drive!
Anyway, I was afraid this might be a gauge vs number discussion. I’m sure there are human factors studies out there to prove me correct, but let me be clear: gauges are better than raw numbers. Faster to (wait for it) gauge your speed, fewer brain cycles required to process the information.

Speaking of Reagan, check out his last movie: Ernest Hemingway’s The Killers (1964). With Angie Dickinson, Lee Marvin, and a host of character actor ‘faces’ like Norman Fell, Burt Mustin, Claude Akins, and Clu Gulager. Classic Universal schlock. And Reagan’s last flick.
FWIW, my piece of shit Ford Escort from the 1980s had infinite speed wipers. I didn’t have electric windows, but my wiper game was lit.
Years ago lucky enough to have a rare car naming trifecta: a red Volkswagen Fox that I called Redd Fox Mulder.
Thank you for the great picture of Eugene. First jeep that came to mind.

Auto’s are more reliable than manuals these days too.
Saab Sonett also was FG bodied. At least 3 production runs.
“Judgment.” After 1,200 years, I would think you would know how to spell by now.
Why do you all call her ‘Princess Henry’ instead of Princess Harry? Did I miss something?
A smart move by Volvo. They built their brand on safety.
