I hate to say it, but if you’ve got Serious Issues you want to Seriously Address, an all-in-one product might not be the best way to go? Many actives (glycolic, retinoids, niacinamide, hydroquinone, vitamin C, etc, etc) need to be at a specific pH in order to be effective, and that pH may vary significantly.

I do! On Bandcamp or directly from the artist when possible, on iTunes otherwise. I don’t think it’s gotten more “complicated,” necessarily — but it HAS gotten more transparent as to ingredients and what they do, it’s gotten more specific/targeted, and it’s gotten bigger, i.e. a much broader range of more-diverse products to choose from.

It’s SO fun, and the sparkles cling to liquid mattes really well (applied when the lipstick is allllmost dry), so there’s surprisingly good wear and surprisingly little touch-up work required!

Yeah, when I add a really extreme thing into the mix (super dark lipstick, weird color eyeshadow), it takes a lot more time/thought/experimenting to get the rest of your face to work with it. I don’t usually wear SUPER dark lipsticks even tho I love them on other people, because even the mattes are so high-maintenance…

Not necessarily! You can often find a good home IPL device for $200-300, which is a MUCH smaller investment than multiple trips to a derm / med spa / etc for pro IPL or laser treatments!

ALSO, if you don’t feel like actually going somewhere? A lot of the at-home devices are fantaaaastically effective. I’ve had an IPL (Silkn SensEpil) for a few years now and holy shit why did I suffer so long. (Caveat : most home devices — and many professional/medical lasers — will really only work on a lightish…
