So actual question, but how does the strike affect convention appearances? I ask because we just had Montreal Comic-Con this week-end, and all of the actors scheduled to appear were there, from Lance Eriksen to Stephen Hamell to Sean Austin to the cast of Smallville, despite the strike. However, unlike SDCC, they

While I’m not as harsh on stuff like CinemaSins as others may be, I think the proliferation of this kind of comedy has led to a number with a very narrow, misleading view of narrative analysis. If they can recognize a trope, trope bad. There is no further analysis on context and execution, of the kind of thing that

Yeah, their captivity to the Zack Snyder crowd also leads them to make a major mistake: they keep wanting to make 4-quadrants blockbuster money while not targeting all four quadrants. Like, I do like The Batman very much, but nobody is going to see that movie with the whole family. Whenever I go see a Marvel movies,

I’m starting to think WB/DC need to change the way they do test screenings. Twice now they’ve had movies that garnered huge hype in test screenings, only for people to go “wtf?” on release (Batman v Superman & Flash). Maybe their audience sampling method needs work, because this doesn’t seem to happen to other

I was annoyed? Didn’t know that.

It’s the only one I haven’t seen. And I was explaining why I never got to seeing it, because of the larger context of Nolan’s works. Seems a relevant conversation, amd I had some very interesting response to the OP that made good points. So I don’t really see the point of your derision.

As written, your fuck them seems directed at the actors, not the UK legislators. Which is how I read it.

i don’t think the nostalgia is for the movies, I think it’s for Stuart and Jackman (and McKellen) specifically. No one is clamoring for Famke Jensen or James Marsden or Rebecca Romjin to come back. But Stewart and Jackman and McKellen resonated with people in a way that the movies haven’t.

Even as a young tween, I was of the opinion that it doesn’t matter if you’re watching a movie on the old, tiny black and white wood panel tv set at my grandpa’s cabin, if the movie is good, it will still be good, because the story is there.

I haven’t seen a lot of Wes Anderson film. I’ve seen Grand Budapest Hotel and Moonrise Kingdom, and I think I’ve seen The Royal Tenenbaums when I was younger, but I’m not sure. From what I’ve seen, though, he reminds me more of a Tim Burton - he’s a “quirky” director with a very specific visual and thematic style

Yeah, coupled with the line about crossing picket lines, it makes the House of the Dragon cast look like scabs, when no, they aren’t?

Fuck them for what? The cast of House of the Dragon aren’t SAG members.

His views on the “theater experience” clearly come from an extremely privileged perspective that can afford to ignore the economic underbelly of his own industry.

Wow, defensive much?

Loved reading your perspective, thank you. I should make clear I don’t think Nolan is a bad filmmaker, far from it. I’m just expressing how I feel he’s lost his mystique for me

Tenrt is to this day the only Nolan movie I never saw. (I was too young for Insomnia and stopped paying attention, but I did see it. I should give it another shot some day.)

We don't know yet, but yeah, that contrast could be very interesting.

But those other heroes are human (well, depends on the version for Hawkgirl). Having Superman as an inspiration for other heroes as a symbol of what he’s doing for humanity as a whole is not a bad idea. Hell, one of all-time favourite DC superhero is Steel, whose whole impetus for becoming a hero is being inspired by

I think it could work - if Superman is going to be an inspiring figure, it’s not a bad idea to give him people to inspire. And you could make something entertaining out of the contrast between how inspiring Superman appears to other heroes, and much of a goofy dork he actually is as Clark.

God do I hate the whole “you absolutely need to see this movie in theater” propaganda bullshit. Everytime I go to the movies, the preshow is full of clips of actors and/or directors saying how important it is to see their film in theaters, or thanking us for seeing the film in theaters - buddy, I’m already in the
