I’m not opposed to this since movies are no longer really a zero-sum game - it’s not like this getting made is preventing other, better movies from getting made. And some people might even enjoy it. The principals involved have earned the ability to do what they want and even convinced some execs to make it.

Tangentially related: I used to listen to Chris Hardwick’s various podcasts years ago and he used to say “oh, I adooore [person/franchise/pop culture thing]” a lot. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that phrase, but same thing, it always sounded weird and off-putting. This has been on my mind for years.

Maybe that’s what it was. There was an awful lot of crappy pop-rock in that period and the genre still hasn’t recovered.

Touche, good point. I meant at the time a theatrical release (still my default as an elder millenial, weirdly) but you are definitely right this would have been produced by a streamer today.

The Terminal was a nice little movie that would have difficulty getting made today since it’s not a 4-quadrant blockbuster or a low-budget indie. That said, it works very well based on the strength of Tom Hank’s charm and the good-natured spirit of the film.

Purely subjective, but I am blown away the guy responsible for We Are Young went on to fame as a producer. I will never understand how that song got so big.

I’ve been meaning to check out Tubi. Is the content edited, or is it as is with commercials?

I was excited for Blade when it was announced (as a completely random surprise!) but as it continues to languish and go through a lot of changes and my interest in the MCU wanes, I find myself shrugging at this news. I was really hoping the MCU would make a move towards horror but now I doubt that happens any time

Lol, Blade can’t make the cut. Nice work.

I’ve only been once, but it was a great experience.

As a former GoT fan, I didn’t give HotD a chance for two reasons. First, the botched ending to the show and the impossible to finish book series (GRRM isn’t going to ever finish it because he doesn’t know how) made me retroactively feel a bit dumb for investing so much time and energy into it. The second reason is the

Thoughts from an internet rando:

I still think that is wild and I wonder why the 700 Club even bothers. I don’t watch much Freeform (usually just the Halloween movies for some good ol nostalgia) so its pretty funny that Hocus Pocus plays, shows ads for a ton of progressive programming, ends... and then the 700 Club starts up.

We got Peacock a million years ago when it was free and since then, the only thing we have used it for is the last Psych movie. Whenever we decide to watch a movie or something, we go through 4 or so apps and Peacock never even crosses our minds.

I never really thought about gambling and the Olympics (especially given stuff like finding out the whole of Russia was likely doping), but it would be interesting to see.

Of all the “peek into the lives of celebrities” reality shows, only two worked for me. The first was The Osbournes, in part because of the novelty and in part because it was a glimpse of Ozzy the aging dad, rather than the public perception of him as crazy metal god. Way back when the internet wasn’t what it is today,

My first thought reading this article, after “who the fuck actually wants this show?”, was that The Baldwins wanted some good PR after Hilaria’s Spanish accent flap and the events surrounding the Rust shooting. They aren’t the first people to do this, but it does seem a bit suspect, which in turn contributes to the

Setting aside my normal grievances with the direction of streaming for a bit, I want to say that I am very curious how successful the Olympics are going to be behind a paywall on Peacock. I suspect (with no evidence) that while many Americans tune in to the Olympics actively, a significant portion have it on in the

I like Stewart, but what is he getting at here? A good portion of this country likes the echo chamber of fox news that reassures them that their thoughts and feelings are valid. fox news is going to keep doing that for money. Plus, fox news can always default to “it’s a conspiracy/witch hunt/whatever” whenever the

I might have posted this before, but here’s my thing with Ryan Reynolds: his whole brand is “quippy guy”. Virtually everyone of his roles is a snarky guy who shows up, quips a lot and... that’s it. I can usually only take that in small doses but since that’s also Deadpool’s brand, it kind of fit. And even then... a
