I’ve crossed the US on Amtrak many times and would do it again in a heartbeat. It’s pleasant in every way I can think of.

They’ve already made their patents freely available, so other companies can already build their cars to use the Tesla Supercharger network—they’re just not doing it.

There’s also that giant battery factory in the desert they’re working on.

If/when the Model 3 popularizes the electric car, Tesla could make a buttload more money if they license the Supercharger circuitry to other companies, and then start charging (no pun intended) for non-Tesla owners to charge at Supercharger stations.
