Oddly enough, that’s how I ended up getting pulled into reading a lot of the Gawker media group. I was reading the WSJ pretty exclusively and it was refreshing to get a different take on some of the same stories, whether or not I agreed on the conclusions. And now I’m on Kinja, because it’s much more fun to argue

Big fan of this idea. I may even buy an Echo now that it allows me to order an Uber when I go to the bars, order me a pizza after the bars, and play “The Sound of Silence” the next morning while I check my bank account...

I’m leaning towards agreeing with you. Assuming 35 lengths of 40' pipe went over the side, that gives us 1400 linear feet. It’s difficult to tell from the video, but I assumed the diameter to be 36" with a wall thickness of .625" (wall thickness is impossible to tell, but we generally use .625" due to hoop stress

No, I understand and totally agree. This stuff should have oversight, that’s part of what keeps us all from being chimney sweeps during the Industrial Revolution. I’m sorry if there was any snark, I tend to get overly vehement before I’ve eaten lunch haha.

The voluntary data that is supplied is in the form of a website, FracFocus.org which requires oil companies to disclose chemicals and volumes that are used in each and every well that undergoes a hydraulic fracturing treatment. It’s actually worth the read (https://fracfocus.org/).

To clarify, a frac job uses approx the same amount of water that golf course does every 9 days. California has 936 golf courses which equates to the same water use as 37,960 frac jobs per year.

I saw a roughneck woman once....I mean, I didn’t know it at the time, but I found out later.

We prefer to think of it as a variable level lake...

I think that’s my big problem with the whole thing. These sensationalist headlines are getting very tired.

The whole idea that somebody can have their life disrupted tremendously ‘just because their famous’ is something that a lot of us firmly disagree with.

It’s a pity because there is literally a South Park reference for everything

Aside from sparklers, the most least piece of fireworks

No kidding? I grew up out there in the Permian. Only place that’s remotely cost effective right now.

I’m totally on board with what you’re saying. While I was a frac engineer, a lot of the regulations that were in place were actually fairly reasonable. And my company was part of a huge push to develop fluid systems that were compatible with the recycled frac water.

You are correct to a point. Hydraulic fracturing is an excellent way to make unconventional fields economical to produce. And wells that are stimulated via fracking tend to produce at very high initial rates (they normalize over the long term).

Natural gas pipeline engineer here (please ungrey me): The main thing to keep in mind is the relationship between the Aliso Canyon storage facility and the surrounding power plants. The transmission (read: gas delivery) company will have a series of storage facilities set up at certain intervals along their pipeline.

God, I hope not. I think I’d probably have dreams of showing up to the job site in my underwear without studying

Not a bad follow up at all. Here’s my take:

Oh, I see your meaning.

Nope! I love my school, but I am not that aggressive in my Aggie-ness. I just had to sling a little bit of crap your way since the rest of my family went to UT. Knee jerk reaction haha.
