I *think* the actor may have authored (or co-authored) it too.
100% agree. I absolutely LOVED Salome as the Founder. Such a pitch-perfect performance. I especially loved when she grabbed Broca by the throat, LIFTING him up and threatening him. And of course, her order to exterminate the entire Cardassian population.
That's just it though. I doubt we'll ever see anything in this continuity again on TV or in the movies. everything from this point will Abrahms-verse Trek (which I like enough). But the only way to get new adventures with Kira, Picard et al is through the books, which thankfully, have a cohesive continuity now.
a book undid fwiw.
Oh man I still remember watching the DS9 premiere on our little portable TV in my bedroom. had to rely on the rabbit ears to get the signal. Lot of static but it was still so great.
No I don't think it would ever have worked. The writers really pushed Dukat into super villainy partly because of the fan reaction. People were actually SIDING with him, saying things like "The Bajoran Occupation wasn't THAT bad." and shipping Kira/Dukat. That just disturbed the writers. For them Dukat was EVIL and…
He's got Kassidy and a new little brother or sister too. As much as I loved that it was him staring out the window, part of me would've loved if it was Kassidy & Jake waiting together.
NEEERRRDDDDD!
Absolutely fair point.
It's the shot of Jake and Kira, staring out the window that gets me. every time. Seeing little Jake in those flashbacks really drove it all home for me.
In the Companion they mentioned him doing it at the rehearsal, which caused her to break out laughing.
100% agree Cookie. She basically said as much at one point, I think to Weyoun.
Weyoun does explain that he's re-deployed most of the guards to help execute the entire Cardassian population as per the Founder's orders.
That laugher outside the door is easily one of my all-time favourite Trek, if not TV, moments. Nana's acting in it is FLAWLESS. Her breathlessly swiping at Damar, in a fit of laughter is just so perfect.
Ha, remember how the character descriptions were leaked/released early and everyone thought it was a joke? Basically the exact same racial/species/background make-up of TOS just re-arranged slightly between genders.
Yeah they were really going for the nostalgia/old school Trek fans. Them and people familiar enough to know the ship was called enterprise and may be curious enough to check it out.
I can't agree that Archer is the worst main character. In the running sure but he's at least got a personality. Mayweather was just… there. Hoshi was only barely interesting, Reed was inoffensive but Harry Kim?
Maybe it's just me, but for me the Doctor is the best realized "Pinocchio"-type character in Trek. Better than Data in that regard. His longing for respect from the crew and a more fully-realized life is palpable more painful than Data's. He also has a better character arc. Data changed very little in comparison.
But be a BIT realistic. The war has zero to do with that story, They can't do a thing to help them in the war effort and talking about a massive story from a DIFFERENT show that isn't going to be furthered developed in this episode is rather pointless and poor writing.
