I felt the same way when I saw this headline, because my first thought was “nobody like her would make such a rookie mistake on a wall as not clipping in or something.” But nope, she just tripped on the hike up, could’ve happened to anyone. So sad.

A similar accident happened to one of my good friends, an avid climber. She was hiking back from a climb and was hit by a falling rock and died. It was a complete freak accident but also only one that happens in mountaineering.
THIS.
The only thing I’d suggest is that this line doesn’t strike me as correct: “Their first instinct was to react with fear...”. I think rather, their first reaction was to act like they were in charge and that the person they were talking to was not their equal.
Gods, that reveal on the Lisa Alexander video is so dang creepy. Like, lady, at what point did you decide that posing like a haunted, malevolent doll was gonna be a good look? If you dropped her into a forest with that look, she’d be some prime creepypasta.
Hun, she didn’t wrongly think she knew the owners. She was consciously lying as a flex to put a person of color in his place, never dreaming for a minute that she was speaking to the owner himself.
Probably because she didn’t actually think she knew the owner?
I guess she assumed he just didn’t know what ownership meant, since all minorities must rent? Just ugh.
My thoughts exactly. We never got to see the Blair Witch before the end of the movie, but I’m pretty sure this is her, caught on film at last.
Can we take a moment to talk about dog park Karen’s “apology.” She knew what she was doing. Her excuse that she didn’t makes me hate her more. She doubled down, in her apology she’s trying to make herself the victim again. She’s earned everything that has come her way. And I’m tired of them bringing out out the tired…
Screw doing some deep dive into her life, nobody cares about her life or even her specifically. Like the article says, she’s just one example of awful actions out of many.
Wow. I had never seen that Alexander video. It’s not even the accosting and the assumption that he doesn’t live there (which are awful), but the way she’s explaining to him how basic things like property ownership and protest work. This is exactly the way I talk to my three year-old when he wants to know why he can’t…
Fuck the New York Times.
She had an accident on a path while walking.
Damn. Climbing is so rewarding and is such an accessible sport for young people; and it has a community like no other sport I’ve been involved in. Climbers love other climbers. They help each other, give them route info, belay for them, cheer them on... This isn’t even a case of “dying doing what she loved.” This is…
Yeah, and what’s behind her color-blocked lettering “Best thing ever” ?? Clearly there was even more written there that she chose to specifically conceal.
Anyone else weirded out at her crossing out “and she buys things for me” instead of just circling the part she likes best? Like, she knows we can see the what’s crossed out, right? And then the whole thing about “leaves me alone?” It’d be cute if he were 13, but he’s 4, and this feels too honest.
Yes. Seconded.
“She likes to: leave me alone”
