Yes, the timing of the last two babies was a conscious choice for them. Alec has said they had done IVF trying for a girl (and also that pregnancy #5 happened “the old fashioned way”). The timing indicates that they chose to implant the surrogate with a girl around the time they found out that #5 was a boy.

This is not my understanding of how magazine shoots and Vogue in particular actually work.
