FWIW, many of us ladies too have noticed the serious dearth of soft or nerdy boys in American media. It’s why a lot of us switched to kdramas, which feature a far greater spectrum of straight masculinity. Having done so myself, I no longer have any appetite at all for the toxic BS masculinity on display here.

Yep, totally get it. My relatives all live in a swing state, so I feel like it’s an obligation, but I absolutely get tapping out, especially for POC.

If you guys want a little nice time, Bari Weiss (groan) live-tweeted a NYT meeting about this in the most disparaging and shitty way possible (as you’d expect) and she is getting absolutely dragged for it on Twitter, some of whom are her colleagues at hte NYT. It’s a fun little read, especially if you hate the “both

These are good points.

If you live near one, avail yourself of your local Asian or Indian market. Prices are often very low compared to other options, and full to bursting with products that are easy and flavorful and delightful and cheap. You can’t find produce at that price point elsewhere, especially herbs. My local has herbs at the same

I fall in the middle on this question. You absolutely have to teach people how to mine information. But part of that is having enough background to know how to ask a question or to know when something doesn’t seem right. And yes, part of that is knowing at least information tentpoles so that you can recognize patterns

Actually, a picture is worth a thousand words.

I block the obvious racist tools or people who won’t ever budge, but I’ve stuck it out for a couple of people who seemed like suburban white ladies who hadn’t yet noticed that Eisenhower would be a Democrat today. That’s what I had done before the Trump era, and a couple of those people ended up voting for HRC and

That quote is from the rector (priest) of St. Johns.

White people in America don’t have to do the heavy lifting of empathy and imagining the world from the perspective of other people. We can, but our circumstances don’t force us to. When you’re not the dominant culture (or gender or sexuality or what have you), that forces you to experience the stories of the dominant

OH GOD.

King of Queens, but superheroes.

Amazing how the press gets plain-spoken when it’s literally them being targeted.

Me too. This is totally happening.

Our taste might be a bit different... I come from all of this very much from the production side rather than the MC’ing side, and the MCing I like is more musician-influenced rather than vocalist-influenced. As such, Ms. Dynamite is more in that latter camp. But I totally hear you about the supporting vocals for

I’ve always loved UK garage and grime, and I like grew up with Wiley.. I listened to London pirate radio every day at work in the late 90s, and that was one of Wiley’s first big breaks, DJing for the station I listened to. He and Ms. Dynamite are basically the sound of my 20s. :)

Y’all laugh but this is a real thing. I can’t go to the grocery store (husband is high-risk), and my usual grocery delivery is nearly impossible to get (i.e., Ive managed to get a delivery slot once in the last 2 months).

I am NOT sad that Jung Hae In is having a moment. Puppy boys yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

That Borge story is fascinating. ANd you’re spot on. The movie could have been an update of the ideas behind it, philophically interesting...
