Pig parts are a trip. I just got smoked pig tail, and can’t come up with anything more than subbing it for the smoked pork hocks that I usually use for split pea soup.

Farro is NBD though. You can use it like you’d use barley in soup, or as the grain in a grain bowl.

I need to know more about this lime leaf infusion. I have a sous vide set up, I have lime leaves. But I’ve never done infusions before. What did you do, Claire?

Trading Places is by far the best blockbuster of 1983.

And just so I’m on topic, this is my favorite recent crossdressing kung fu lady Chinese show, Oh My General. Which, the trailer speaks for itself. Also, I’m a sucker for Song dynasty stuff.

Women dressing up as men to lead armies is the plot of like a quarter of Chinese period TV shows.

Same. I just went this morning, and the only thing totally sold out was canned beans. Rice was a bit low, but not that much worse than end-of-day on a normal Sunday night.

We’re doing some version of the snack basket thing RN, but with cereal, bread, and fruit snacks. Because my kids will eat an entire box of cereal/loaf of bread/box of fruit snacks by themselves if left unattended.

Amazon Prime is AMAZING for history/literature nerds.

I haven’t loved a soundtrack so much since Do the Right Thing.

I’ve been thinking about a Wuxia, because the kids can watch along. Maybe somethign loosely based on history, so I don’t feel bad about binge-watching with them.

My kids have full school days for this break, but I remember during the blizzard of 77, we spent 2 weeks at home and my parents got a tape recorder out and we all made up fake news, interviews, sang songs, radio plays, etc. That was good for _hours_, and works for younger kids too.

I grew up in the hey-day of mixtapes, but my favorite one is later, from 2009. A friend of mine who usually does pretty bassy/shuffly or avante gard electronic music did a mix of party bangers (available here) but still very bassy/shuffly.

I feel like Bride and Prejudice had sort of this affect. It came out in 2004, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t get a push because of MBFGW.

Also, more than Crazy Rich Asians, I think The Farewell is the Chinese MBFGW.

Same. I heard him in college in the mid-90s, and he reminded me of that sketch on In Living Color with the dudes who misuse big words all the time. (Not that West was misusing the words, but htat it seemed like such an affect.)

WRONG y’all.

It was hot and I was hungry: this comes up in our house at least every few months. I can’t say why.

Maybe everyone else already knew this, but I looked with suspicion upon the designation of one of the parties as “rector” because England was still RC at the time. And as an Episcopalian myself, I was under the impression that only we (Anglicans and Episcos) have rectors.

Smoked oysters are one of those things that are meant to be canned. They are delightful in every way.

Jjampong and jajangmyun are Korean “Chinese” food, so it would make more sense to American audeinces if they’d called it like “Egg foo suey” or something like that, which is much more identifiably fake Chinese/cheap take-out-ish.
