Meaning that to the filmmakers they’re not an integral part of the story that it is absolutely necessary to film for the stated story to be at all cohesive with the visual story?

I think you’re missing the genius of the decision of moving Will’s world (aka ours) to this season. For me, the biggest thrill of the trilogy was starting the story in a fantasy world and then unexpectedly entering ours - it’s the perfect inversion of a thousand rip offs of Narnia; it’s *our* world that feels alien.
I’ve been pretty chill about the changes from the books (CGI budget etc.) and am actually really happy about Will’s early introduction - I read the Subtle Knife as a pre-teen and it took me ages to be happy that it wasn’t Lyra, even though Will is now my fave for all time, so I can only imagine what it would mean for…
“my copy of The Golden Compass has a cover image of Lyra with Pan as a mouse by her hood riding Iorek, and they did not recreate this shot nor even acknowledge where Pan was during the ride”
Brazilian monster movie after the serial killer movie from last year, its awesome to see my country branching out of the drama, crime and comedy genre. I need to catch up to what they are doing back home!
Color me intrigued! I think this review hits a really good balance between suggesting the overall shape of the film and discussing its merits on the one hand, and not just giving the entire plot away on the other. Kind of a lost art (and a very necessary one for a movie that takes a sudden swerve partway through like…
The Descent.
I love Mason & Dixon, and would not argue with someone who suggests it is better than Gravity’s Rainbow. I, however, would never make that argument.
I’m willing to bet vast imaginary sums of money that this was courtesy of Iggy, who has this weird weakness for god-awful B-movie action films.
the lower class poverty-stricken characters in that film were just a little TOO real and believable for the comfort of an Academy that distributes party bags that cost $100k to an audience composed of already-millionaires
It would come off as poor. Tarr’s films starting from Damnation are all built to be single-viewing experiences. The man does very little but build atmosphere and immersion. They’re his primary storytelling mechanics. Removing them from his films by cutting them into pieces, whether it be Satantango or one of his…
I highly recommend this film to anyone who is interested but put off by the length. It is admittedly the most difficult film I’ve ever watched, but it’s also one of the most immersive. The grungy black and white and the incredible sound design (maybe the best I’ve ever heard) transport you in a way few films do. Also…
Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart, Mamrie Hart, Tyler Oakley, that whole crew of YouTube personalities seem to not be assholes either.
If you’re even remotely interested in hip-hop, you’re constantly waiting for him to announce a new release date.
Children’s Hospital is funnier than anything Ed Helms has ever done.
This is one of my favorite movies ever. Back in the 90's I bought a Laserdisc player just to watch a better looking and better sounding copy of this movie than my VHS copy. Never before in my life have I ever wished I was in Chicago.
I love this movie; it’s just so fearlessly goofy. No apology, no explanation, just... here it is, take it or leave it.
You lucky son of a bitch. I keep tapping articles on my phone, only for the feed to scroll up at the last possible moment so I actually tap on a sponsored advertorial. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. And I can’t figure out how Kinja times it so perfectly.
Or, you know, just drink water. You don’t deplete your electrolytes after one damn workout, and replenishing them is a simple matter of maintaining a normal, healthy diet.
I rank The Dark World as one of my fav MCU films. It’s a lot of fun, and I’ve definitely rewatched it more than the Iron Man films. But I’ve rewatched the Cap films more times than I can remember.
