The irony is that Edward Elgar (composer of P&C) wrote amazing pieces that showcased mid and low brass & woodwinds. Not sure what he was thinking on that. Yeah it’s supposed to be a processional “march”, but even Even Sousa’s marches had some interesting parts for the lower pitched instruments.

The average person doesn’t see the real work a conductor does. Rehearsals, studying the score (the book that has all of the instrumental parts written out), and in some cases memorizing it..all the parts, and researching the pieces slated for the concert. Every conductor has their own interpretation of the same piece.…
