The whole episode felt “off” to me, from the scene blocking to the editing to the cinematography, etc.
That wind-tunnel photo reminds me of an interesting factoid I picked up while reading Dennis R. Jenkins’ book on the Shuttle’s development: That the Orbiter’s shape wasn’t validated at hypersonic speeds until it returned from orbit on STS-1!
The “twang” always looked cool in IMAX films, but it always seemed like it put unnecessary stress on the SRB segments down near the bottom of the stack. Wasn’t it a contributing factor in the Challenger Disaster?
