Actually, I don't have a problem with the special effects looking "dated", because even with the "primitive" CGI you never have flickery matte lines, yet you always have proper physics, the shadows cast upon an object in space always match the angle of the "sun", etc.

Don't forget Tim "Zathras" Choate (although he wasn't in the core cast).
