Thank you for this. "If there were gold medals for taking drugs for England, I'd have a shit load." Never change Noel.

Speaking of District 9, why hasn't Neil Blomkamp been hired to to direct episode IX? Granted Elysium was not good at all but he still has good will to spare from District 9.

Yeah we all know Oz is just a thinly veiled metaphor for early 80's Afghanistan.

Finally I get the dark and gritty Wizard Of Oz reboot I've never wanted.

Honestly I bet their story would make for damn good TV.

How much would this even cost? When Mad Men used 30 seconds of not even a famous Beatles song it cost $1 million.

No worst case is "Peter Jackson directs middle installment of The Hobbit trilogy."

In one movie Josh Trank showed a hell of a lot more potential when it comes to visual effects heavy fantasy based action movies than the director of the Piano. I'm all for non white non male directors getting a shot but just because they have made good movies of any kind doesn't automatically translate to being able

The guy also wrote Oblivion and that movie sucked so while Toy Story 3 was awesome I don't see why he should get to write a new trilogy of Star Wars movies.

Apparently we have a different set of qualifications for who we think can handle a Star Wars movie. Your check list includes a pulse and a directing credit of any sort.

My sentance might have come across as too harsh. He certainly displayed competency in Godzilla but nothing that really makes me think he'd be great for a Star Wars movie. I agree the story was the main problem.

Other than Alfonso Curaon and Guillermo Del Toro who else would be good for these movies? It annoys when people say stuff like this and offer no ideas.

I'm not in the industry but I believe it is like a detailed outline. Possibly a first draft. I'm sure someone else could give a more knowledgable answer but it is along those lines.

Ugh I sure hope not. Both of those were average at best and I've had no desire to rewatch either of them.

I agree with you but what makes you think he wants to continue to make small idiosyncratic films. Looper was a low budget sci fi action movie of sorts. Maybe he's always wanted to do massive action movies and this is his dream.

That guy was already in his late 50's when he directed Empire so I don't think he really had grand aspirations at that point. He was probably happy to have his retirement taken care of.

Yeah it sucks that he'll make so much money from doing one of the movies that he'll be able to do personal, idiosyncratic films for the rest of his career.

In what universe is Gareth Edwards considered a talented director? As far as Rian Johnson goes, I liked Looper but I hated Brick so I don't know how I feel about this. Josh Trank is the only one of the directors that excites me. Chronicle was suprisingly awesome.

Well I stand corrected. Didn't know she already had a crazy long title.

That sucks for us. Congrats to Todd though. I always enjoyed his TV analysis over the years.
