Speaking of all things sartorial, I wonder about the kilts (has this already been covered?). QI (Stephen Fry) insists that kilts and clans are a Victorian fixation and that clans in the 18th century would not have had the technology, time nor money (dyes were expensive) to have that many or variety of kilt.

He does, he really really does.

Then Dougal turns up at the aid station and tries to kill the wounded English. I thought that showed again that Jamie was the better man.

Just re-watched that scene and you're right: Killing Lt. Honeybuns was flat-out rotten. Showed me Dougal is a mindless killer after the Lt. was gallant enough to warn Dougal of the impending slaughter.

Also worth getting RSI over.

That acting "style" (no idea what to call it) is more of a season 2 manifestation. Season 1 he was all boyish charm and swagger whilst the seeds of his true nature germinated. I assume in season 2 he was showing us how off kilter in France he was and also suffering from PTSD.

<insert primal="" screaming="" here=""> I said no horse slaughter talk.

Very good point. Whilst it must be a bonanza to fledgling shows to have a ready made readership, and those fans must be appeased, at least at first, it must be tempting for him to strike out on his own. And season 2 is the ideal time as the plot quality drops dramatically past book 2.

Like a costume that one imagines one wears to war. I thought that was nicely done.

I thought the Internet banned the mentioning of Kevin Costner movies?

Would Colum not have given his consent to Dougal in the same way Lovat did to his son? He could reasonably say to the English that even though his hotheaded brother and a few minions ran off to fight, the clan did not.

Why ridiculous?

No one's mentioned Dougal's shocking bloodthirst and his wanton disregard for the conventions of decency.

Ha!

BPC would like bling even though his whole family would ostracise him for it and most likely he wouldn't understand why.

Interesting. On the crazy gay board (it left quite the impression on how barking the Internet really is) many of the posters asserted that Gabaldon must be a homophobe because all of her gay characters were evil. Being the enthusiastic scanner that I am, I thought I must have missed something.

I wondered if it was a way to show that Claire isn't totally humourless. She takes their nonsense for what it is and isn't offended by it. Unless of course she's in the throws of PTSD and then nothing gets a hall pass.

Good to know. What's your view on Gabaldon being homophobic, that her gay characters (I assume this means BJR) are evil homosexuals rather than just evil?

Fergus and Dougal are the stand out actors. That kid oozes French!

..and tiresome.
