It’s true, the Quad 4 is an amazingly efficient engine for its day. I’ve recently been collecting data on 80s and 90s engines for a personal project, and one metric I’ve been looking at is “HP per Liter per 1000 RPM” (where the RPM is the engine’s power peak); I’ve found this ends up with a number that seems to…
Screens and car manufacturers is way too much...the mere idea of them building cars that people want to own in 5 years seems to be ancient history. Once you start tieing screens into the gauges, you now date a fundamental operating point of the car, and I’m sure that the gauges going obsolete and glitchy will take a…
Well...I have never watched Yu Gi Oh and knew nothing about it, now I know things about it, also read about cars, and was entertained. Success??
Don’t care what it’s called, just give it at least 2.4 liters of NA displacement or a turbo on a 1.5 to 2.0 liter. Some torque, please! Doesn’t need a ton, just more than it had, thank yoooooou.
OK Porsche, now you’ve gone and made a non-turbo 4.0 liter variant of the 3.0T Carrera motor and put it in the Boxster...now just go ahead, take that 3.0 liter, take the turbos off of it, and get rid of ALL the four cylinders. That’s right, just sweep that giant mistake under the rug...
After the first watch through I would’ve agreed it bit off more than it can chew more than most, but after watching through the season again I think this is a really great episode that’s really well done. That initial sense that they could have fleshed some things out more disappears when you see the ground they…

Ugh. What random guesses do you feel inclined to make about others? I made no ad hominems, I stated my opinion, and jerks have to attack me for it. This is why I have mostly given up on commenting here. Congrats.
Indeed. I like the 981, though I prefer the 987 to it. But yeah the 4 cylinder also lost me in the Boxster/Cayman. I don’t want to claim that 4 or 8 cylinder Porsches aren’t true Porsches or anything stupid like that, I know the company’s history way too well, but for me, if it ain’t got a 6 cylinder (or a 10, CARRERA…
I’ve driven several. I know they’re nice cars. But I liked them smaller, I liked them when they were less about brand snobbery and more about just being quality, robust products.
Too big, too expensive, too geared toward fat old men who can’t drive the things. Porsche lost me after the 997. VW cashing in on the badge instead of keeping the brilliance of the brand alive.
“I also agree that all of a person’s accomplishments in life cannot be simply discarded based off of one trait, action, or current status they hold.”
Bernie Ecclestone is another mobster who things he’s above the law like Trump. He was just smart enough to not be as blatantly criminal in his cruddy life, and avoid jamming up global politics for his own ends.
ECS was amazing up until...2012-13 maybe? There was definitely a gradual but steady degradation of the quality of everything: the quality of the average part for sale on their site, the quality of shipping, the quality of packaging, the quality of service and documentation. I swore them off several years ago.
My rule of thumb is that your flat bottomed steering wheel is fine, it just better not be attached to a steering rack with a ratio slower than about 2.5:1. It does depend a bit on just how “flat” the flat part is. Some flat bottomed steering wheels are nearly indistinguishable from a round one as it goes through your…
I’ll definitely have to reserve judgment for one in person, but in photos I am not a fan. I don’t HATE it but I find it somehow a generic, almost japanese-looking design, with too much overstyling flourishes laid on top. It could be a knock-off of a lot of different car brands. Funnily enough, it looks a lot more like…
Great article and investigative work on a car that has always been interesting! It’s always been weird that the Saleen S7 was just there, I did note that several times over the years...
There’s nothing wrong with engine braking, you’re just using the kinetic energy of the car to drive the engine like an air pump through the transmission. If the drivetrain can take the torque of the engine, they can easily take the drag that exists between your engine pumping air and your car rolling along.
