I think New Order is one of the blandest, coldest, most uninteresting bands of that era. Loved Joy Division, love The Cure and Depeche Mode, like a lot of other stuff in this ilk. Can't do New Order.

Right, we know. Girls love "confidence"—which is something that people have because there's some logical reason for them to have it—it's not some magical power guys have where they will themselves to be dynamic. Woody Allen isn't confident/swaggering/alpha/charismatic for demonstrable reasons.
