Ehh? Weird how I’ve managed to magically miss all those immigrant areas of Stockholm, despite having visited every ‘immigrant’ area of Stockholm several times.

“Not from a Swedish background” could mean a lot of things. I’m an immigrant in Sweden. I’m from Scotland and as white as it is possible to be without being actually see-through. I’m “not from a Swedish background.” It is only your racist mind taking that and making “Muslim refugee.”
You’ve got that completely the wrong way round. If your house is on fire, do you stop to sympathise with your neighbour whose gutters need fixed?
Haha well after five years it seems normal to me now, but it did take me aback at the time! I think that’s exactly it - Swedes do keep to themselves, but have a strong sense of injustice and will tackle it when they come across it... then run away home. Thank goodness these two guys did!
As an ex pat in Sweden, I think it’s true that Swedes are individualistic - yet somehow community minded at the same time.
I think that whomever sold him the gun should stand trial in his place, as they incorrectly deemed him mentally competent.
Well it only launched in October, which is great - but Sweden has had theirs for decades, so it’s all relative!
“Organization”? It’s a political party. A modicum of research would have revealed that.
But if they're making you uncomfortable, why isn't it fair to you for them to be stored elsewhere?
And where would I find this country of Europe with a single criminal justice system?
Yes! As an actual Scottish person (as in, born and bred in Glasgow, incomprehensible accent and everything) who lived in the States for a couple of years as a teenager, this used to drive me nuts. “Yeah, I’m totally Scaaaatttish too, my name’s Mc-whatever.” “No, you’re bloody not. You’re American, and that’s fine.”
Except that it’s really not happening as reported here: http://www.thelocal.de/20160329/is-ge…
Oh. Well now I'm convinced! Well done you.
That isn’t even a little bit true.
Well we made it nearly four years in the face of an insurgent Germany before America lifted a finger, so...
Mostly because the US both made money from and was relatively unscathed from the Second World War... and the US is the one inordinately paranoid about communism. Many people (myself included until I moved here) have no idea of the contributions Sweden made to the Cold War, and particularly how geographically…
You can keep repeating yourself, but it won’t make it true. Maybe actual grownup countries aren’t so paranoid as to make up wars on abstract nouns? You carry on fighting Terror, we’ll be fine here, thanks.
Most Swedes these days are mortified about that. I’ve had people literally apologise to me for not backing us in the war (I’m British). I think a lot of people forget just how vulnerable they were stuck between Russia and Germany - and also how much they quietly helped in the Cold War.
*insert eyeroll here* That’s what certain Americans love to believe.
I’m an immigrant to Sweden who doesn’t have kids and I’m more than happy to pay 50% taxes to live in a society that prioritises quality of life.
