Sure, I never said she didn't - only that I don't think the nasty tweets she received are about her being a woman.

Any time ;-)
Yep: "go to fuck" is a Scottish insult along the lines of "go fuck yourself".
Right, but only one of the tweets quoted above includes a gendered insult. Not condoning insulting people on the opposite side of the debate in any way, but I think that the vitriol being directed at her has a lot more to do with her being rich (and English) than female.
Directing someone to go to 'fuck' is a bit like 'go fuck yourself','Better Together' is the term for the anti-independence campaign (i.e. better together with the rest of the U.K.) and it'll be piss or 'pish' which we use as crap or bullshit.
It's Scottish. 'Get tae (to) fuck' or 'Away tae fuck' are my personal favourites ;-)
She's not Scottish, but she is a Scottish resident so has a vote. She has every right to an opinion (and to put her money where her mouth is if she so choses), but honestly? An English person (particularly a very rich one) being so vocally against Scottish independence does't leave a great taste in one's mouth. I…
Yes. Duck.
I'm on söder so... Liljeholmen?!
This applies to any language, but your comment caught my eye because I'm also learning Swedish (I live in Stockholm). I'm at about the same label as you, and what I've found useful lately is reading as much as I can in Swedish. I'm looking for a more functional/every day use so I'm reading magazines and novels (good…
Why is it so confusing? Even if it is, why does it matter? Sure if someone was trying to shout for all of that family in one breath they might faint, but other than that... what's the big deal?
Yes! This one pisses me off no end. I was born with my surname; so was my father. So how come it's his name for him, but for me it's somehow still 'his' name?
Why wait until you're 80? I say rock that look now!
Same here in the UK - I have a kind of peverse fascination for threads like this one, because it just astounds me what American athiests have to put up with. In fact, I'd say it's probably the opposite here, I have a friend who came out as Christian a couple of years ago, and everyone was a bit shocked and appalled.…
True, but they're at the age when they repeat EVERYTHING, so being extremely careful with lyrics limits us a bit... and also, one year olds singing novelty rap is hilarious!
I've got no kids either, but I teach pre school and quite often we have music on during the day while they're playing. My co teacher and I are both 90s kids, so we find it hilarious to play them music from our youth then watch one and two year olds (and this is in Stockholm, so they're Swedish one and two year olds)…
My Dad did the same thing. Made a face when I said I was a feminist, then when I described what a feminist was he said, "... so a human, then?"
...the ones that outright tell you you're wrong, you'll want them someday, seem to me to be kind of sensitive about their own life decisions...
Ehh, if you don't mind me saying, you horrify pretty easily ;-) There are various smooth/chunky settings for whatever kind you want, and it tastes pretty good in my humble opinion. The real point is though, that it's about the same time & effort as dialling for a pizza, but is a way healthier option.
You know what just recently changed my life? A soup maker. I've always been a big soup person, easy way to get a nice big bunch of veggies in one go (and I hide the ones I'm not crazy about in the taste of ones I like!), but it can be kind of a faff to come home from work when I'm hungry/tired and start making it from…
